Re: Do you edit too much, not enough, or just right?
Normally I procrastinate, with contest deadlines (usually Tekko, Sakura-Con and, until this year, Anime Evolution) being the goad to get me off my butt and get videos finished.
That being said, this year I seem to be on a bit of a roll (had two videos sort of hit my head, edit themselves there pretty swiftly and then took less than a week to bang out IRL), so I've decided to see if I can sustain that and crank out a video a month for the foreseeable future.
Generally, the way I edit is that I get the thing done in my head first and then sit down and go hell for leather around work hours until it's finished. Of course, this year I was also trying to be responsible because with the Sakura-Con deadline at the end of the month and Dragon Age 2 coming out tomorrow, I knew if I didn't get them done before today, there was a good chance they wouldn't get done.
So, I guess to answer your question---I don't really edit until brain says it's time to, and then I don't do anything else at home but edit until the video's done. Which, the way I work, is generally 3 days to about a week or so from start to finish.

If I wasn't trying to take over the world via AMV Rooms, I'd probably hove time to edit more and even complete those 10,000 hour AMV projects

Re: Do you edit too much, not enough, or just right?
I have so little time and very few ideas that don't require 100+ hours of work to pull off (for me at least). Shit gets done when it gets done, but starts every winter - hopefully in time for spring or summer cons. When I do edit, it's too much at once - to the point I start stressing out over getting stuff done and won't enjoy myself doing anything else until I finish.

Just out of curiosity, Vlad, do you actually track the number of hours you spend on a project? 'Cause I sure don't. I can say, "Yeah, my last video I started on Monday night and finished on Thursday night", but that's about it.Vlad G Pohnert wrote:If I wasn't trying to take over the world via AMV Rooms, I'd probably hove time to edit more and even complete those 10,000 hour AMV projects

I study for class, I go to work, and I can never make time to edit like I wish I could. This doesn't bode well for the future, seeing how I'll probably be going full-time with school this August.
I know I could do 15 minutes here or there everyday, but I really need at least one or two full hours to get any productive editing done. I really want to put some good time into this hobby, but it always seems like there's something urgent that needs my attention first.
Plus, I'm just awful at managing my time.

Don't even ask... those days you describe above don't even make my rough cut 50% doneCorpseGoddess wrote:Just out of curiosity, Vlad, do you actually track the number of hours you spend on a project?
