Do you edit too much, not enough, or just right?

Post by Castor Troy » Mon Mar 07, 2011 11:44 am

1. Do you spend nearly every waking moment you have editing?

2. Do you not have enough time to edit with life/school/work in the way?

3. Do you feel that you have enough time to edit and still maintain a balance of things in your life?

If you're #3, please let me know your secret. :|

Right now I'm both #1 and #2 with tons of unplayed video games that I really want to get to, but I have strict deadlines for my upcoming projects. It's not as easy as you think to dedicate time to everything.

I think I should scale down and stop making crossover videos.

I never really think of it in terms of how much editing I do and whether or not I'm doing the right amount. I just edit whenever I want. If I want or need to do something else, then I do. I also don't get too worried about deadlines. If I don't have something for a con, it's not the end of the world.

I wish I didn't have to edit at all and videos would just come out of me spontaneously :P

When I actively edit, I try to keep it short and I let it take over my life but for only a few days at most. While I'm not and haven't for a while been actively editing, when I do, I always try to keep the amount of time spent down. AMVing isn't my job, nor even my first or even second hobby, so... I try to adjust the time spent accordingly. I never felt like the time I spent editing was not enough, though.

I don't think that I edit enough right now. I should do way more creative work instead of gameing. I don't know if I spend a lot of time on a project. Maybe about 48hours (without footage ripping and encoding) split up over a couple of months.

Stop watching TV, stop playing computer games, stop wasteing time on the internet is a good idea for me when I stop editing and I can live without them (well... okay I need some internet per day .-. ). That makes enough space for studying, working, editing and social activits.

1. Do you spend nearly every waking moment you have editing?
Umm... No. XD I spend my weekends editing. If I don't have homework or a pressing project due, I might edit during the weekdays, but only if I'm actually free.

2. Do you not have enough time to edit with life/school/work in the way?
YES. School eats up 5 days of my week, I work essentially full time 3 days of the week [MWF] AND I usually do homework on Sundays. So that usually just leaves me with Saturdays and whatever days I have when I don't have a lot of homework/studying.

3. Do you feel that you have enough time to edit and still maintain a balance of things in your life?
Naturally. Editing is a big hobby in my life now [right alongside video games and American Pickers], and I'm trying my best to get better at it. That being said, I'm not going to let my grades/work go into the toilet just because it's fun to do/work on. I feel like I don't have enough TIME for it, but once I graduate, I should have much more time to dedicate to it.

I actually spend more time watching AMVs, and searching for new AMVs rather than editing. And IF by chance I am editing its Graphic work rather than AMVs. I would like to spend more time on editing as I have piles and piles of songs I've collected for various ideas I would like to try, but time seems to fly by faster and faster these days. I do business work almost 10-12 hours a day, and so after that its more "life" things I like to do, or just relax and not do anything.

Maybe I lack motivation, maybe I'm just lazy, or maybe I'll just edit when I edit.

I don't think there can be a balance xD I know for myself when I start editing a project it seems like the hours just tick by and all of a sudden its 5am in the morning and I got to get up at 8am for work ^_^.

I have lots of ideas that I would like to edit to but whenever I have time to edit, I'm usually to lazy to edit and prefer to watch anime or do nothing instead. Dx

Usually it's number 3. I tend to edit whenever I have time outside of school or friend/family stuff. Sometimes it goes back and forth to 1 or 2, though, depending on the time of year, (too much school or summer time when I actually go outside).
