I usually pick a show with a decent-sized cast and name my machines after characters. My current scheme is Record of Lodoss War.

Deedlit - Main system (C2Q, 4 GB RAM)
Parn - My Laptop (C2D, 4GB RAM)
Slayn - Nettop portable playback computer.
Shiris - Asus Eee netbook
Spark - My old system, kept around as a backup (A64 single-core, 2 GB RAM)
Neese - A WAMP web server in a VM on Parn
Etoh - My old PowerBook G4
Ghim - My WD TV Live. It's only on the network so it can get firmware updates.
Orson - 120 GB iPod Classic

I don't name most of my external drives, though. I have too many (5 full-size drives, 5 USB flash sticks).

Since we're on the subject of names, I have a cat named Zeus, Lina (Short for thumbelina cus she's got massive thumbs) and another named Kit (Not short for KitKat or Kitten but K.I.T.T. the Knight Industries Two Thousand)

EDI: My Ipod Touch [Mass Effect 2 Reference]

Marle: My Laptop [Chrono Trigger Reference]
Normandy: My Editing Computer [Mass Effect Reference]
Chrono: My Old Rig [Now my younger brother's rig, but still retains the name]

PSP: Elizabeth [Persona Reference, and also the ONLY reason I bought the damn thing]
DS: Zero [Code Geass Reference, I was OBSESSED at the time]

I really don't name my hard drives. Perhaps I should.

External 1 : Miranda [ME2 Reference, because it's "huge" and is mostly for storage.]
External 2: Tali [ME2 Reference, because it keeps all my important work data on it]
Internal 1: Snoopy [Charlie Brown Reference. Because it KNOWS EVERYTHING]

I admit I try to give my devices short Japanese "pet" names for consistency and organization.
Wherever possible, I try to use unique first letters, then map them as corresponding drives to keep track of everything

ODZ - [main rig] Big 18.4" i7 Laptop (the giant from One Piece, pronounced "Odds")
YOSHI - [shared rig] Small 14" i5 Laptop (the yoshi from Super Mario Bros.)
TOBIO - [ultra portable rig] Tiny 10" atom Netbook (the real boy Astro Boy is modeled after)
ATOMO - [phone] Android HTC Dream/G1 (Japanese name for Astro Boy. He's "small but powerful")
KINO - [old rig] Small 14" AMD turion Laptop (from Kino's Journey)
iKINO - [old iPod] 60GB iPod Video (from Kino's Journey)
TENMA (T:) - [new iPod] Blue 16GB iPod Nano (girl from School Rumble with Blue hair)

MENCHI (M:) 320GB ext. desktop HDD (the dog from Excel Saga aka "the-back-up-food-supply")
HATCHI (H:) 500GB ext. desktop HDD ("Half" a terabyte)
ICHI (I:) 1TB ext. desktop HDD (means "One" terabyte)
KANTI (K:) 1TB portable HDD (robot from FLCL mistaken as God that can do anything)
RUKIA (R:) 640GB Black portable HDD (girl from Bleach with Black hair)
L (L:) 500GB White portable HDD ("L" from Death Note wears White shirts)

And my Home Network is called The_Grand_Line (obviously a huge One Piece fan...)

I have yet to name my new Fender Squier, but I'm leaning towards something like Luci/Elle/Ciel
But it might be too cliche using a variant of Lucielle from BECK, so I'm holding off on a name for now...

Note: anything above that is crossed out has moved on to a better place :( On the bright side, the devices didn't actually die. I ended up loading them full of useful information like an offline version of Wikipedia, and various encyclopedic/how-to documents, as well as some music and movies. Then I sent them off to some of my relatives in the Philippines in places that don't have internet access.
