That's it... I'll just post the "Punishment Divine" lyrics here since I'm sure many of you don't like Blind Guardian. It's possibly my favorite song ever. Just read it like it's poetry. Here goes...

It's warm and tender
But very soon it will turn cold
Shadows stare down from the walls

Out of the mist
It's coming closer now
It never rains, it pours on me
So let the saints set up the courtyard
The unpleasant cage
The obvious point is I'm insane
Was I aware whom I had slain
I fear I was

The Faceless
The Nameless
The bush set on fire

No one ever dared to speak
Shame on me
I don't believe
The here and now
Is all we're living for

Joyful it seems
But then suddenly
By one false move
It's blown away
Joyful it seems
But then suddenly
Their voices cease
It's gone away

Vanished
To the point of no return
Vanished
To the point of no return

Witness my last breath
I do not regret a word I've said
The strong will survive
The weak must die
And out of the mist
It's coming closer now
Sinner and saints
The grateful slaves

Nature's law instead of god in heaven

From far beyond
I can hear them sing
I hear angels sing
Songs of innocence
I hear angels sing
Despite the facts are clear
It cannot be
What we can't see
I must admit
It sounds so sweet

Joyful it seems
But then suddenly
By one false move
It's blown away
Joyful it seems
But then suddenly
Their voices cease
It's gone away

Vanished
To the point of no return
Vanished
To the point of no return

Angels sing I hear Angels sing
I can hear them sing
Far beyond I hear them sing
"It's true, it's true
We don't exist
Far beyond I hear them sing
"It's true, it's true
We don't exist"

Well we all know
There's no other side
It's good and evil
I know right between
There's no borderline
This is the punishment divine

Surrounded by night
I've been offered insight
There is none but the sin of pride
Am I wrong an I right
Am I losing my sight
Abandoning the superior mind

Joyful it seems
But then suddenly
By one false move
It's blown away
Joyful it seems
But then suddenly
Their voices cease
It's gone away

Vanished
To the point of no return
Vanished
To the point of no return

Right away I will be gone
Gone I will be gone

Through the valleys grey
Through the shapeless land
I walk alone
I'm left alone

Through the deepest void
A blackened paradise
I walk alone
I'm left alone

lol, props to Blind Guardian baby!

Nietzche tops my list. I love his view of the Overman.

Next on my list would be Buddha.

Emanuel Kant was a real Pissant who was very rarely stable
Idegger, Idegger was a boozy begger who could drink you under the table
David Hume could outconsume Schloffer and Heiner and Haegel.
....
God it's been too long... *thinks*
There's nothin' Neecher' couldn't Teach ya 'bout the raisin of the wrist.. Socrates himself was permanantly pissed...
John Stewart Mill of his own free will drank a half a bottle of shanty, was particularly ill.
Plato they say could stick it away, half a pint of whiskey every day
Aristotlle Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
Hobbes was fond of his Bram
And Rene DeCartes was a drunken fart - "I drink therefore I am"

Socrates himself is particularly missed...
A lovely little thinker, but a bugger when he's pissed!

Hmm... I've been a christian for the past five years, so I've never really found need to delve into deep philosophical stuff. Well at least not research much into anyone elses work, I do have my own philosphical views and occasional debates with a number of my friends, yet my faith dictates that I need not worry about any of that.

Although (I'm not sure on what levels, if any, this is similar), I have been extensively learning about Quantum mechanics, the fascination of Schloedinger's (sp?) cat, and less far out stuff like quarks, leptons etc. It's interesting taking a look at people's insight into the make up of the universe, although to be honest I think they're going in the entirely wrong direction.

Damn, I've probably gone so off-topic it's unbelievable...

[quote="JustAnOrdinaryPanda"] Schloedinger's (sp?) catquote]

What are you, Japanese :P It's Schrodinger....

If you like some of the ideas about the quantum world the first author that comes to mind is John Gribbin, he wrote the "In Search of Schrodinger's Cat" and "Schrodinger's Kittens and the Search for Reality". They're good, if only the theory (I think most of the math would be to difficult for the everyday readey)

Yeah, I always forget that guys name... :D

I don't think the heavy math is a problem really, :) I'm quite a natural born genius in that area...

~modesty packs bags and leaves~

:P :P :P

My mate's more heavily into it than me, I've only got about 8 books on it, he has over thirty. All a bit much for me, a kid trying to do A-Levels in one of the best grammar schools in the country after having broken his back in the summer. :( :( :( So...so...tired... :?

Anyhoo.... erm... what was I saying? I need to go get drunk...

~door slams~

"He who fights with evil should see to it that he himself does not become evil; for when you look into the abyss the abyss also looks into you."

-Frederick Nietchez

"Life is a walking shadow, a poor player
that frets and struts his time upon stage
and then is heard no more; it is a tale told
by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing."

-Macbeth Act 5, Scene 1 (I love that play!)

They may not have been phlosophers per say... but I do believe that both quotes are a philosophy...
"Those the gods wish to destroy they first make MAD... Ehehehehehehe!"
"Names are a hook that can hunt you, trace you, track you across the universe... remain nameless and you shall be safe."
"If I wanted your opinion, I would have told you what it was."
