If effects are well used, yes. If not perhaps a raw video may work

Re: Effects Vs. Raw;

To me it is all about integration.....if the effects you are using blend well with the footage you are using, then I consider it all good. Well, outside of considering the concept of the video as a whole. But really...for me it depends on what kind of video I'm going for, the lyrics, mood (I tend to use color changes for this), and the concept as a whole...Yeah, if everything blends well and I can't notice too much of a difference then you get a few points but then I'll question why you used what you used :3 There is such thing as way too much AKA I can't see the original anime footage...that or I've had one too many

Re: Effects Vs. Raw;
I prefer a balance. Raw and effects are both equally needed to make a complete amv imo. I think if you build on a style, then it will end up being that clean raw/effects build. Kind of like empty motion and how "clean" it is despite how many random masks and effects were used. ...but again, its a matter of opinion.

Then that guitar thingies popped up and went dun dun DUN dun then those box thingies went zooming by and twirling around and shit. Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.

Re: Effects Vs. Raw;
When it comes to AMV's mostly I get bored of effect-less videos, because most of the time it's spammed with random cross-fades instead. If a video, however, uses hard-cuts of the well placed sort,
a video can be stunningly enjoyable to me (koop's "paper image" for example). But most of the time when I watch so called "raw" AMV's, I either have to like the anime(s) used or the combination of sources in general.
However as I mentioned, if the video is well executed with its placements of cuts, scene selection and the 2 sources makes justice to one another, I might enjoy it if it is at the level of making me care for it.
Might sound harsh, but nowadays I mainly watch AMV's of animes I like, that way I'll almost always enjoy the video.
Of course I won't always like how it was made, but I usually give out pointers (editing-wise) if so.
So yeah,
Basically I enjoy the more flashy, fresh, experimental-visual-experience sort of videos.
Not saything the one is better than the other. I just care more for nice advance visuals than stock cross-fades.

Also, of course the video featuring heavy effects must be well thought through.ZetZu wrote:When it comes to AMV's mostly I get bored of effect-less videos, because most of the time it's spammed with random cross-fades instead. If a video, however, uses hard-cuts of the well placed sort,

The editor at hand also needs to know what the heck he/she is doing, and have some sense of "designers taste".
I'll rephrase myself, I enjoy original and creative effect-filled videos.
If the effects are the same old boring ones all spammed at once, I'll close it down after a few seconds + skimming.

Re: Effects Vs. Raw;
We've already seen the anime, so without effects your video will be boring. Real editors use effects. The more the better. Like this one amv. It was all like woosh, zoom with effects. And I was all like whoa awesome. Then that guitar thingies popped up and went dun dun DUN dun then those box thingies went zooming by and twirling around and shit. Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load. Seriously, it was go great I barely even noticed there was anime in the video. Without effects I would have just been like 'Saw it already *yawn*'.
And that's why you simply must have effects. Raw editing is for faggots and idiots who think we give a shit about the anime. Fuck the anime, we just wanna see pretty boxes flying around.
