Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Thats one of the problems, I am the same way.

I suppose a better question is, what's my motivation? I can pop in a CD or click on a playlist, close my eyes, and just let my imagination do the work, AMVs galore. If I'm truly living by the ideal "edit for yourself" mantra, why should I edit a video? (well, its fun... but so are a million other things)

(...actually, thats a dumb question, don't answer it seriously... unless you really want to)

Today I have been erasing lots of unnecesary files, but found out that there are some uncompleted betas. Damn! now I'll have to pick the coolest one if I want to make something

If you weren't having fun with it, why aren't you doing one of those million other things? I won't pretend I edit only for myself (who does?), but I started and am still motivated almost solely because of that enjoyment.
Edit whatever seems the most fun. I might not be the the best example to tell you this, but try starting that quick, crazy idea that makes you look forward to editing.

I edit what I feel like at the time. For example, I edited Betwixt and Between 2 when I got fed up with the way people were treating modern romance. So I used Taylor Swift and had somebody get stabbed. >_>'

It's better to be flooded with too many than to struggle with none.

I started editing half a year ago, so I only have a couple completed videos. What I'm finding myself doing is working on a project which requires more than I know how to do, but not so much as to be too difficult. I go for something that will be fun to edit and will teach me a new skill. For example, I haven't done much sync to cuts in my videos yet, and I don't feel like I'm very good at cuts in general; my next project has a fairly fast pace, and will require me to work on a lot of cuts between and within action scenes, and I'm working with a really fun song and video source to guarantee that I'll actually work on it instead of slacking off and wishing I were working on something else.

I also have a list which has been filling up with ideas for a few years now, from before I edited anything.

And since I haven't used it yet, here's a dinosaur:

The motivation I've used for this in the past is "I want to watch this video, and if I don't sit down and make it, no one else is ever going to make it". Remembering this helps me get through the parts of the process that are not fun in order to get to the fun parts.

Also, this kind of cuts both ways; only making the videos that you're pretty sure don't exist and won't exist if you don't do something about it is a pretty good way to cut down an overly-large idea space.
