Need some help with my next undertaking

I have my songs set aside and am really looking for some source footage to start sorting through in this venture, I Have a lot of it mentally storyboarded.

Basically what I need is some suggestions of Anime where it may follow a person who becomes Ill and dies eventually, I'd like to keep it to one solid source, but am willing to work with multiple, so throw it at me. Also let me know what kind of stuff they go through (Example: What sickness? How long do they deal with it? How do they die?)

Kanon (2006) has like 4 or 5 characters, one after another that go through different "sicknesses". They all kinda survive but they really rely on their suffering being the main point of the show. None of the characters technically die(its up to your interpretation on 1) but with all the depression going on its definitely tweakable.

The sicknesses:

1 girl is some reincarnation of a fox that became human, she can't be human for too long and is slowly dying by her bedside

1 girl is tormented by demons made from her imagination that are slowly ruining her life

1 girl is slowly dying from some fatal sickness all her life that will eventually kill her, she also has a sister who all her life is pretending that they are not related so she doesn't have to go through the pain of losing her. The girl with the sickness also cuts herself and stuff like that.

1 girl fell into a coma when she was young and her spirit or something wanders around talking to the main character, when she realizes she is not human things get pretty emotional

And then the 1 girl that is happy, they hit her mother with a car which causes her to go through a depression

And of course there's this one guy main character that has to deal with all this.

Sorry for spoiling the whole series but its not really that great of a show to begin with besides the first fox girl arc, way too much unnecessary drama with very little pay off by the end.

Staying with Key stories, Misuzu's story arc in Air would also fit quite well.

She has a mysterious wasting disease that slowly steals her mobility. She reacts mostly by living life to its fullest (as best she can, since she's kind of socially isolated). She ends up dying in her adoptive mother's arms after getting out of her wheelchair to walk on the beach under her own power one final time.

There's both the movie and TV versions of the story to choose from for it, too.

Very nice, and the animation in air is a little more to my liking I believe... Idk, still a little... iffy, but I'll check it out as well. Keep 'em comin'

Fuko slowly disappears from the minds of those she knows, and eventually disappears completely...but not before you learn she was in an accident and is in a coma doing some astral projection or something

Nagisa, the second main character, struggles with illness all her life. She gets sick again not too long before she gives birth and then dies right after her daughter (Ushio) is born.
Then about 6 years later, Ushio gets sick and dies too. Presumably from the same thing Nagisa had.

Well, if you want to take such great comedies as mentioned and turn them into drama to challenge yourself, I'd say good for you!

Here are my suggestions.

Grave of the fireflies has two characters slowly die. Both of starvation and malnutrition.

I believe one of the Phoenix stories has a man who eventually meets his end.

Everyone in the humanlike-robot populated world is suffering from "The Ruin," which causes them to rust and decay until they die. One of the main themes is how different people deal with imminent mortality.

Spoiler :

Most everyone dies from this illness eventually, although the main character is immune. Some slowly fall apart, lose body parts. Some decay from the inside out until they stop working. Some suddenly disintegrate. It depends on the person's state of mind.
If you want to focus on a single person, note that they don't start killin' off recurring characters until towards the end of the 24-ep series.

I'm not gonna recommend Full Moon wo Sagashite, even if the main character does have cancer...

Hitsuji no Uta(Lament of the Lamb)

I haven't completey seen this short OVA series fully yet, but as much as I have seen. It seems really good. Bit older, and different animation for sure, not many bright colours or anything like that :3

Basic story, its a family who craves blood, there is a sister and brother( a bit incest) but none the less good. Eventually the sister ends up dying from health problems concerning her heart, and the brother ends up taking his life.
