I just managed to get my hands on a copy of vocaloid and am having a lot of fun with it. I also just downloaded mikumikudance so i could play around with creating a custom music video using hatsune mike and friends. I'm curious as to how these two programs fit as far as source material.
for example there are already several songs done by hatsune miku on the site, so she's a valid "musical artist" however if i take an existing song and have her sing it instead then do i put her down as the musical artist and then just the song's name? personally I think this would be ok as there are many songs that have been sung by artists who did not compose them (madonna singing american pie for example lol) but i just wanted to check.
as for mikumikudance, is this allowable as an video source? I was not sure if it would count as original animation and I don't plan to use it as the sole video source, just for a few dance scenes in between anime clips.
just wanted to find out one way or another before actually starting a project, thanks
mikumikudance and vocaloid usable as sources?

Music doesn't really have many limits as far as AMVs go. If you consider trailers, even just talking can be considered an AMV. Or some experimental stuff that doesn't have audio or other weird things like those might pass too. Really, the requirement is pretty much just in the video. And yes, I personally think that mikumikudance would count as anime since, IIRC, it's a videogame that allows you to create dancing cutscenes with the vocaloids or something along those lines. You could just list that as video source, or original animation would be fine too, perhaps.

ok, thanks a bunch, just to clarify though, if i were to use linkin park's "in the end" and had miku singing it would i have her as the artist and just add the song under her name?
btw i'm not actually using that lol, although i'm tempted to try it just to see what it sounds like

if you are using a song by linkin park, you list linkin park as the audio source... just because you make it appear as though a character is the one singing it, linkin park is the actual artist.

Well, same as with a cover song, you list who is performing it. Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz6Xin7zK7k
