Well, looks like my Pro video struck out yet again this year. What does it say about your video when it does well with the general public but wasn't worth nary a mention among your peers? And what does it say about me that some videos that I thought shouldn't have been in finals made it in anyway? We must have very converging opinions about each other's work, I guess.

The fact that some other videos that have already won awards broke into finals. I'm more of VicBond's mindset for finalists (as in, "You won your award already, now make something else or let someone else win"), but I've had to work with these rules for the last 6 of 7 years. I'm pleased with what I've done to this point with my entry; it's too bad I can't please my other peers in this contest. Maybe, quite frankly, I should have just submitted to Expo, considering my tastes and choices don't jive with any of you others out there.....

But enough about me and my self-pity. Good luck to the other finalists in Pro.

I don't agree with all the vids that made it, in some categories I agree with none of them including at least one category my vid was nominated to, but overall it seemed decent. Most of the ones nominated are the better vids of the contest at least. There wasn't too much "HOW THE HELL DID THAT MAKE IT" stuff, although a fair bit of "well, that one obviously just barely got enough votes to make it...."

By the way, just because it amused me to check, time between announcing Pro finals were up and whining about them: 42 minutes.

Kind of surprised at the nomination results, but many of them were well deserved. Went ahead and voted, several of them were ones that I'd marked in the discussion thread as ones that I'd scored more highly, while others I was genuinely confused about.

But then again, isn't this the case with every contest anywhere? xD I've just come to accept that, and it's made my life simpler.

Yay! So how much are you collecting on your bet? 10-1? 15-1? :)

No, seriously, I decided to make one venting post about it and that's it. I've moved on. And let me say, some categories are really making me choose between one video and the other. This is going to be a hard task for some of these categories.

Honestly that's why I like the pro contest >>
Regardless that a vid I made got blindly chewed apart in the video discussions (I would have loved to see more of those btw for that very reason); I'll consider it a real achievement if I ever win in pro.

Frankly, it's not that hard to make a video that will appeal to convention goers, or learning what hits and misses at certain contests.

I too was surprised by some of the category noms, but the voters have spoken, you can only roll with it. (And await the inevitable 'wehs' and 'congrats.')

This year was decent, the complaints about this year didn't seem as bad as previous ones and hey people actually spent a lot of space talking about the videos. I think this year had the most reviews of any year Ive seen for the contest.

I agree, we got lots of awesome comments and stuff. I like to see that. Out of all of the years I've entered pro and attended awa (5 i think) I think Last year was one of the worst for complaining. people really need to relax, we can't always have 20 mind blowingly amazing videos every year that's just extremely unlikely. Heck if we did $10 says there would be complaints about the "quality of pro" because of the other 40 videos.

there was some really cool stuff this year. And like Brakus said, some of the categories are going to be really hard to vote on because I like two of the videos in them quite a bit.

So thanks once again for the staff at AWA for putting on such a cool contest.

Yeah no nominations for me this year. But on the plus side the videos that are in the categories are almost all quality videos with at least something redeeming for them. I picked a few categories different but I was very impressed with a couple videos and overall the contest seemed to have a much higher quality than in years past. Not many really terrible ones, although many were not my taste.
