Atypical audio contest?
A long time ago I did a donators iron chef thingie where I, very intentionally, loaded the song selection towards styles not commonly seen in AMVs. For example, I had some classical music, russian military music, native american flutes, african drumming, and sankyoku (a form of traditional Japanese music). Someone recently mentioned they'd be interested in seeing that done again. At the moment, this is just an interest gauge. Who would be willing to compete in something like this?
Basic rules would be along these lines:
- Would be given a choice of several songs to select from. None will be rock or any other music style that, in my opinion, is already done a lot in AMVs. Previously I allowed the judges to select one atypical song each, then I included a couple of my own choices.
- A week or two weeks to edit. Long enough to do a real video. Perhaps iron chef isn't the right name here.
- Must complete the entire video. None of this 'well, I got 30 seconds done, I'll just submit with it ending mid-lyric' shit.
- Unable to edit audio. This one might change if one of the selected songs is excessively long.
- I'm sure I could round up a few people I could trust to judge fairly. If possible, I won't be a judge and judging would be done blind.
- The sole prize is that I will attempt to refrain from insulting the winning video.
Along with this, anyone got some audio suggestions? There aren't many country music AMVs (true twangy type country, not the near-pop like country). Rap is not common, although it isn't exactly unheard of either. Data sonification would be definitely unusual, although no one would pick it. I'd like various traditional music, so if you non-American editors could submit an example of whatever style music is traditional in your country it would be nice. Any other suggestions?

Id do it. Also certain types of techno I think would be a good source for this ? I rarely see techno used, and there is some types of it that are never touched.

Why the hell hasn't Ishkur updated that guide in almost the past decade? It's common knowledge by now that the defining feature of nu Italo disco is caused by AUTOTUNE ABUSE, not vocoders.dokidoki wrote:What types?MycathatesyouAMV wrote:Id do it. Re: Atypical audio contest?
I figured I'd go ahead and do this if I got 4 people saying they'd join. Since there are four who said they would, I'm rounding up judges and the audio now. Expect this to start this weekend sometime.

Any limit on entrants? I'd be interested considering I now have sources prepped for editing.
