Re: Fuckin' Youtubers...
Someone missed the satire in my post (as I was mocking myself with a reference to my reputation for looking for opportunities mock youtubers), but I appreciate the satire in yours. Still, in case someone may take you seriously...Prodigi wrote:Wow. Almost like every story you ever tell us that begins with one of the following:Kionon wrote:...aww and here I thought this was actually going to be something I gave a shit about.
It isn't.
"Back in the day..."
"Phade and I..."
"Kevin Caldwell and I..."
"[Some random band] and I..."
"[Some random anime director] and I..."
"At this convention 10[+] years ago..."

I'll give you one, and I'll give you two, but...
I only met Caldwell once (maybe twice?) and all I recall of the encounter is that I thought he was unfriendly.
The only band with any relevance to the Org that I ever met in person or saw before they were big was Bowling For Soup.
I don't know any anime directors, and never hung out with any. Unless, again, you mean that one extended conversation I had with Macek about Minmay.
Given that I haven't even been to a convention in three years, ALL my convention stories will be years old. I don't have any new stories to share!
But good try at summing up my cultivated reputation as the cranky old editor. I loled.

Re: Fuckin' Youtubers...
Kham lol. I like referring to him as "some youtuber"
And how elitist can you get? I love how he is like "That's why you edit at the level that you do!" I was like "FUUUUUCK is the Starcraft 2 boards all over again, but it's some intangible "level of editing" instead of what league you're in!"
BTW I watched the video in question just now, and it looks like someone vomited flash-synced live action clips and watermarks all over a music video. There is absolutely no theme, it's just random clip soup that he took the time to actually sync up cuts for. Technically, I give it an B (Some scene choices don't even sync up, but it's a beta so whatever.) but thematically I give him a D, there's no point really. Random movies and things that have nothing to do with one another. I guess you could say it's just a vision based on the song with no other theme, but where's the so-called talent he talked about in that? He even admitted it was "just random" - and yep, it sure as hell is. I lost interest pretty fast, and I think anyone who is used to seeing a video that's tightly edited would also, because other than sync, it's pretty dull. The youtube masses that are used to seeing videos like the majority of Youtube AMVs with no concept of sync at all and subtitles plastered all over the place would probably regard this more highly. Oh, my, that was a little elitist of me just now...
Of course, I wouldn't post that on his page, I don't feel like pushing the ignore button or calling attention to my AMVs and Let's Play videos for him to flag.

I should post a thread every time I have an argument with someone, so other people can side with me and make me feel better.

I was originally not going to post in this thread, but I feel like I want to address this. If you were too stupid to find a theme throughout appletree, and can only see it as "Just random", you're participating in the wrong hobby and perhaps video editing isn't for you.Garylisk wrote:BTW I watched the video in question just now, and it looks like someone vomited flash-synced live action clips and watermarks all over a music video. I didn't like the video, with or without the watermark. I can acknowledge the editing quality which is way up there, but other than that... "A tribute to" is not really a theme so much as an excuse to toss a lot of stuff in the same place in no particular order, and maybe my artfag bias is showing but I don't really care for the last decade in mainstream cinema as it is. Herpderp.
But it does deserve a very high standing in Pro, no question on that.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
