Final Fantasy 13: Hurricane

Post by Dark Lord of Debate » Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:47 pm

This is my 10th Final Fantasy music video, this one using footage from the brand new Final Fantasy XIII. All the source footage was in high definition, though I was only able to post it in 480p on the org since otherwise I would have been over the 100mb limit. You can view it in HD on YouTube however.

The video is centered around the lyrics in the chorus "tell me would you kill to save a life" and focuses on Snow and Lightning fighting to save Serah, with clips from key moments in Snow and Serah's relationship, her becoming a L'Cee, and major battle scenes.

This video took me probably the longest to make of any of my videos yet (over a week) because I paid even closer attention to synchronizing the video with the music than usual. I think it produced a really good result, so check it out!

Although I have yet to play this game, I quite enjoyed this. The flow and timing were quite nice, and I can see you put a good deal of effort into it. While the music was not exactly my cup of tea, (don't get me wrong, I enjoy 30STM and even Kanye West every now and again, but there's just something weird about the two doing a collaboration...), it did fit nicely with the theme you were trying to portray. I didn't necessarily like the flashes on some of the beats and a few of the effects, (namely the wavy one around 4:50, which seemed a little out of place), but that's all just my own preference. Despite a few of those moments, however, I felt the second half was actually the strongest portion. Overall, great job!

That...

WAS EXCELLENT.

Really, I'm shocked you didn't select "character profile" as one of the genres. Because the parallel between Snow and Lightning was AMAZINGLY well accomplished, and the combination of the dual motives for the same character was a great conceptual idea. :D

Editing was well done, but I kind of died on the inside with all the white flashing. Meanwhile, I think some more hits on some of hte more important beats would have done it more justice as well. :O

I WISH YOU'D PUT HOPE IN THAR. He would have really worked well in there kind of as the antagonist for both Snow and Lighting, with his own motives for revenge, and it'd be unique to kind of give FFXIII something new.

Probably the best FFXIII video I've seen so far. Glad to see such depth.

Also, 6 minutes was a tad overkill, and the fireworks scenes kind of looked out of place in some areas, but I personally know how little FFXIII footage there is to go with, so not gonna count you off much for that. ;)

Moms are tough.

i was wondering when the FF13 vids would start rolling in due to groups releasing all FMVs and in-game cutscenes =P Anyway good song choice for Serah and Snow. But yeah only gripe about this vid is the white flashes... better to not synch the beats than white flashes :nono: Maybe too much use of additive dissolve as well 4/5

oh can you post an indirect link to HD video, like upload it onto megaupload? I want to stick a HD version of this AMV into my PS3.

Okay sure thing. I added a direct link to the HD version to the video profile. You can download the HD version in 720p here.

And for you guys that didn't like the white flashes, did you find them annoying throughout the video or just toward the end? I had difficulty syncing some of the white flashes in the last section after the last chorus and was thinking about cutting most of those out for the contest version if people didn't like them. Do you think that would be a good idea?

I think the white flashing in the second half was a little less noticeable because of all of what was going on, but I think they could be removed during the fight scenes, especially. There's enough syncing going on already that you don't need the overstimulating contrast. I suppose when things are so standstill, (such as 5:39-4:41 when they're looking at their arms), the flashing wasn't necessary either, due to the fact that it might be hard to tell what they're actually looking at on themselves when a person's eyes keep adjusting for brightness and viewing the crystals forming seems rather important in that instance. It was actually the flashes in the beginning the annoyed me the most, particularly after the additive dissolve transitions. There were moments when the actions synced, and sometimes they didn't, but overall every second upbeat(?) with a flash seems a bit overkill. For instance, :36 to 1:09 looked fine without any additives, and it was basically the same instrumentals in the background. Everything else looked fine to me, other than that wavy effect on Snow again, even after re-watching this a few times...I don't know, it just seems to stand out comparatively to everything else that was used. (Perhaps a multiple zoom out like at 1:10 and 4:49 would make it fit with the rest of the video's appearance?) In any case, if you're fine with what you've edited, then best of luck to you if you decide to enter this into any contests. <3

Thanks for the tips guys! I'll have to see if I can improve it any before submitting it to some contests. Oh and I added "character profile" to the categories. You're only supposed to have three, but oh well...

THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU FOR THE HD LINK. :D

I'd say the white flashes were just pretty bad throughout the entire thing. I was wanting to see the scenes transition at those beats, rather than something white going over the already on screen scene.
