Yeah. Maybe because there was "bad ass" (or was it bad boy) written all over his back ;)
I too didn't care about Vegeta most of the time, I just thought that he's the general villian in the team, and most of the time bitchin' around when Goku or the others have an idea. But he has some memorizable scenes with Bulma ^_^
And the best thing he ever did was sacrificing himself in the fight with Buu. I mean, that was SO cool, when he knocked little Trunks and Goten out of the way, to save all the others...

Anyway, anyone knows if the Saiya-jin concept was already there in Dragonball, or was it just an invention of DBZ? Because then Goku in DB would just be another little fluffy guy with a tail... not a power-seeking whore!

As always, just my 2 (euro)cent.

Oh, and most definitely Goku. In the whole series of DBZ, he never killed one enemy, (I heard that he kills Buu, but haven't seen it yet). He let Vegeta live, and gave Frieza the extra energy to survive! By far, the worst character in DBZ.
Thats only true up to the Freeza saga. I know DBZ isnt big on character development but this is one of the few really noticable changes that takes place in a character. Before Freeza Gokou would always give people a second change. He should show up and give his little "leave now and I wont hurt you," speech. He gave it to Nappa and Vegeta, the Ginyu force and Freeza at first. However, Freeza just kind of pushed him over the edge and made him realize that he cant go letting guys like him go anymore, and that some people wont change or deserve a second chance. After he TRIES to kill Freeza and thinks he succeeded(without showing any remorse either), he never again gives that second chance/leave now and be forgiven speech. From then on if he gives any kind of pre-fight speech or whatever, its more like a confident/I will stop you, make you pay for what you did type thing. When the Androids show up, he just starts fighting. At the cell games, he just goes straight for Cells head(literally, although it didnt do any good) And when Gohan gains the upper hand he orders him to kill Cell. Same thing with Buu and so on. And he does kill Buu by the way.

So, I guess he still didnt actually kill too many people, but atleast he started trying.

God dammit I did not just fucking write all that on DBZ....what is happening to me.....

It's just one of those things "you know about even if you don't like it" topics. Back to topic, i hate pretty much all the litlle anime heroes, like: Ikkie or Ash.
Madness and genius are seperated only by degrees of success.
I don't think necessity is the mother of invention - invention, in my opinion, arises directly from idleness, possibly from laziness. To save oneself trouble.

Huh? Well, Freeza cuts himself into 2 pieces with his Kienzan and after that, Goku gives him enough power to survive or even get of the planet, just a few seconds before Goku himself leaves for good. I wouldn't count that as a Kill though!
Anyway, you're right after this fight Goku changes, not much but a little. He was really desperate to kill Cell in their great fight!

Hits Self On Head

Post by Hermianna » Tue Dec 10, 2002 3:07 pm

Oh well, it's my damn fault for not stopping myself from reading the DBZ commentaries. I'm in the middle of watching the Freeza+Goku fight so I spoiled myself, but hey, it's not like that ever stopped me from watching!

I do agree that Freeza has got to be the worse. I'm getting a bit pissed that everyone has thrown everything but the kitchen sink at him and then he comes floating out of the smoke saying things like, "Ha. Is that all you could do? Well, I think I'm going to play with you a while, etc. etc."

I'd really like to see Vegita's development, though. Even if he acts like a prick most of the time, he's actually my favorite character. He's unpredictable, that's why. I honestly didn't have an inkling of his good qualities until he died in the Freeza encounter. It didn't occur to me that he'd pull an Iago (the Disney parot, not the Shakespearean snitch) on the series. Oh well.
I'd like to think I'm quirky, but I think I just come off as weird most of the time.

I love how much Goku is hated....and watched almost religiously. I feel like one of those old ladies with a MASSIVE collection of porn in my room screaming "Look at this filth! Just look at it!"
"And now you will shed tears of crimson."

True. The worst thing he dies IMHO was killing Dende. I mean, he was a kind, and couldn't do ANY harm to him. He could just heal others... and he would've probably healed him too, if Goku in the end decided to... >.<

Then as Goku flies away Freeza fires his own energy at him. Goku turns around and yells "You F***ing Idiot!" (In the Jap version) and blasts the crap outta him. Thus he DID try to kill Freeza, who somehow survived.

In any event, about the whole dbz hating thing. I think people have the subliminal message in their head that its cool to hate dbz because so many senior members do. I haven't seen many people who are okay with simply enjoying the show. I don't love it to death (Although I did 4 years ago when I first made this name) but I still like it. Too many people seem to just say things like "I hate dbz it is the worstest most overwatched thing ive ever seen... Now I'm gonna go watch Kenshin for the 6,000th time and eat some pockey, then work on my new EVA vid to Chop Suey". Jeez people, I know most of you probably used to watch and like it, as can be seen by the amount of knowlege people display about the show. Liking Dbz is fine, if you truely hate it that's also fine. But don't just say you do because it seems to be one of the board's themes.

That and you must keep in mind the show's age. It's pretty damn old, and thats why the animation is not the best and the themes don't exactly seem original. Yeesh... That was my daily rant, thanks for listening.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
