What happened to fun?
If-if you are lookin through the org forums, we're here, we're being silly, we got Inthesto, Otohiko, I'm Dr.Dinosaur and I like to have a good time and on Saturday mornings I used to like to get a big, fat bowl of cereal and watch cartoons, motherfucker, and when I made AMVs I took those cartoons I liked and made somethin' I liked and if that-- if you can't relate to these videos you're taking this shit too serious. It's AMVs, man, it's-it's fn' fun.

AMVS ARE SYRS BUSN. >:-/
[No, I kid, I have a ball making them, improving myself and watching what others do and evolve. I'm a little more critical than a normal viewer, but I still like giving feedback and how somebody can improve, as least through my eyes. What, however, I think needs less seriousness is the contest forum.]
Oh, and KN, saturday morning cartoons aren't totally dead. We still have Phineus and Ferb, the last hope for the cartoon world for the West.

Re: What happened to fun?
I think the fun is still there, just not with everybody. When we started out we didn't have to worry about anything except putting video to music. Usually we liked both the video and the music, combining the two was fun. But now a lot of 'older' editors are jaded, experienced, less naïve (not that it's a good thing, in this case) and they do have more things to worry about. Technical aspects, they get more nit-picky about small things, a lot of editors have a certain 'reputation', whether or not they want or deserve it (negative or positive) and when they release a video people will compare it to their previous work.
I bet if you asked a new editor right now, they's say it's fun. That's what happened to it.
The new people stole it

Re: What happened to fun?
I believe after you reach a certain level of involvement in the hobby, you start to see amvs as srs business because you witness the depth and breadth of film editing and design as a medium, and try to apply that realization to amvs. You see how deep the rabbit hole goes, and try to give all that creative potential to the only outlet we know.
Then, after a certain threshold, we start applying ourselves to OC, or the bigger picture, and amvs become fun again.

Desensitization.
Now I need special cereal. With magical milk. That usually works.
