Nature of the beast i suppose. Im lucky to be able to make it as a Finalist two years in a row so i just count my blessings.LC_Lapen wrote:You know, after hearing most of us mention it and having it happen to myself for the first time, I have to wonder; why DO the videos we expect to make it fall short and the ones we don't favor as much get the finalist spot? It just befuddles me that my two comedies which I thought were awesome didn't do as well as my action which, quite frankly, I thought of as a last minute scramble with the least amount of hope to make it. I'm sure you who share my sentiments feel the same.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that someone was suggesting that we flood AX with videos, no matter how old they were.....now if I can only remember where I read that.....Radical_Yue wrote:Oh hey. That's probably because the entry got screwed up last year, therefore it coudlnt be played. And you know, some people might like to resubmit so they can see their entry at their one local con. And she sent in new vids anways, they just didnt get chosen.Radical_Yue wrote:Oh hey. Videos from Acen LAST year. This is gonna be an awesome fresh crop of videos to knock my socks off...right?

And by the way, it's only trolling when the vid actually *wins* something. Guess what? Only won once. And I wasn't even there to *see* it.
If the file didn't get corrupted last year, it could have been in last year.

Re: Anime Expo 2010 Anime Music Video Contest Rules Up
Yea iirc, Kazemon15 made Switchback for the AX crowd, but due to a technical mix-up, it could not compete. So I wasnt surprised to see it entered this year.
EDIT: I'd also like to point out that this will be the first time that she actually gets to see it play at a con herself.
EDIT 2:
In the end, I really wouldn't blame it on the editors but more so on the contests. Everyone has their own opinion on what videos should be in an AMV contest and how they should be run. If you dont like how one contest is run, you are fortunate that there are many other contests you can enter that may better suit you.
EDIT 3:
Something else I'd like to add on is that I think as AMV makers, we notice repeat videos in contests a lot easier than the average con goer. It partially has to do with us just keeping up with the AMV contests and it also has to do with a lot of us running the contests. Generally speaking, at a Con, AMVs are the main attraction for us, whereas, for the larger non-AMV maker crowd, it may not be a focus. So while a handful of us may notice the repeat videos, the average Con goer most likely hasnt seen the video at another Con because chances are, they dont go to many Cons.

EDIT 2:
Honestly, I understand the whole 'no trolling' rule when it comes to contests, but every Con chooses how to filter out which videos are allowed into their contests. That's purely up to the Con. There's a benefit to restricting how old the video is or if it's won a contest in that you're always getting fresh videos, but that could be sacrificing the quality of the videos shown because it's a smaller pool to choose from. While fresh videos are important, it's also important to think about how the general audience will like a certain video. I think that's one bias older videos have towards them, a contest coordinator can look them up and see how they were liked on the Org or at other cons and can hold that against them.Ileia wrote:I seem to remember reading somewhere that someone was suggesting that we flood AX with videos, no matter how old they were.....now if I can only remember where I read that.....Radical_Yue wrote:Oh hey. I was just teasing Yue because she was the one suggesting that we send something to AX, despite the age of the video.
