I was convinced by a friend to join this contest (I don't normally send vids to cons but eh why not?). However my lack of knowledge concerning contests is pretty huge. I don't understand the "ranking system" here very well. So there is only two categories? There's no "drama", "romance", "action" etc winners? If not then could you explain the ranking system a little more clearly. I didn't understand it from the rules on the webpage either. I don't really expect to win anything but some clarification would be nice  . Looking forward to some more great vids thanks to this con, it brought quite a few in last year |:> .

OK I explain you the system:

Basically, there will be 3 categories:

- The top 25/30

- The ones we think are enough interesting to be showed but not enough good to be in the top 25/30

- The others

Remember that AMV France is an association so there are 2 steps in the judgement.
1st, some members of the association are the ones who decide the category a video deserves. I said top "25/30" 'cause it only depends how this step will turn, sometimes there are more video than usual, sometimes less, it also depends on how many time we have to show all the vids on big screen during the convention (this year, we have 2 hours if i recall correctly).
After that, judges chosen by AMV France association admins do the final ranking in the top 25/30.

Apart from this 3 categories, each year, the contest, being a convention one, has a public prize voted by many Japan Expo visitors.
Plus, in order to give an answer to many editors' expectations, we, the admins, decide to highlight the exclusive vids with a good ranking. Creating an exclusive vid is already a good point for AMV France members who will do the 1st step of the selection.

I hope everything is clear, if you have any question, ask me ;)

Hey, I have a question about that:
The rules wrote:Prefer an exclusive AMV, never seen before.
Does this mean that we can mark a video as exclusive if it has not been available for download or shown at any conventions before Japan Expo Int'l., BUT was entered to the contest at a convention the same weekend? (Specifically, Anime Expo in California, USA.)

Scintilla, let's say that an exclusive video is a video not foundable on the internet, even in streaming, before Japan Expo convention.
To simplify, we'll consider a vid is an exclusive one if the 1st available link we have is the one you'll get once the contest is finished.

I tried to explain this in a very simply way, so I hope it's ok.

All right. I'm not going to release this video on the Internet until August, actually, so it looks like it will qualify. :)
