Anime companies want the content removed because people are uploading whole episodes (of fansubs). I don't believe it's because of amvs.. I think amvs just get caught in the crossfire.

This is generally what I see the most of on youtube. Anime companies - particuarly western - don't seem to care as much and we've had this discussion before. I do think however that the studios that do make more of a fuss (Kodansha) causes a lot more to be pulled than only the whole episodes that they are really concerned about. Musicians are worried because they do lose teh whole song to youtube espeicially with websites like kickyoutube out there.
