I'm generally new o.o

I knew about the org way before i joined and started uploading, but then Nommay told me i should join and i wanted to get my hands dirty >:3

So i joined lol

At times i feel like a noob but i know that ill learn as i go, and eventually get to the standard editing skill that i see coming from editors on here. ^^
And i agree with Code also, You DO have to have some epic self-esteem.
I've been thrashed around in the editing community by youtube trolls, org trolls, and just people that hate me for no reason. Its hard to explain how hard it was for me, but i think ive grown a lot since joining the org and i wanna thank everyone, even the haters, for helping me learn to cope and become a stronger, more mature editor. |:>

It has even made me wanna get a career in film. I'm still not sure what i want to do yet, but im in college getting a basic 2 year degree. Hopefully, after i graduate, i can move somewhere and get a job in editing! :D

Then that guitar thingies popped up and went dun dun DUN dun then those box thingies went zooming by and twirling around and shit. Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.

Epic self esteem? or just the ability to separate yourself from your video... You are not your video.

Just because someone doesn't like your video doesn't mean they don't like you, and just because someone likes your video doesn't mean they like you. There's plenty of jerks on this site I think make good videos. There's plenty of people on this site that I love who make horrid videos. Liking or disliking their video has nothing to do with me liking or disliking them.

I do think, however that it takes a lot of balls to put anything out there into a community that likes to critique everything they see. And the people on the org DO like critiquing everything (especially if it seems popular).

Besides there's a difference between flaming and critique. A lot of people don't know the difference, both on the giving and receiving sides.

^^there is no difference you can't have your cake and eat it too, the only difference is how you take it...

But other than that 100% agree.

and some ppl don't quit, they just take loooooooooooooooong breaks.
If you do not think so... you will DIE

Lifetime addiction? No. I can go weeks or months without editing.

Lifetime hobby? Possibly.

What do you think I should do? Out of all the Internet communities that I've attempted to join, this is by far one of the most insular.

Given a long enough course of time, almost every message board will eventually shift its focus from the subject it was founded on to the actual members themselves. With my join date being what it is -- although I've lurked since 2002 -- there's no post I can make that won't be greeted by a certain amount of condescension or eye-rolling by the "core" members here. From the outside, it looks like everyone who's been here since 2006 or so has just circled the wagons. I'm not a "Youtube editor" and didn't discover AMVs there, but I can see how it's probably just more convenient to lump everyone who's joined after a certain date into that category.

I want to make more videos and to improve on my mistakes, but I'm not so deluded as to think that much of anyone here is going to be interested in watching them. At least not when people are posting birthday AMVs and other videos filled with Org/Internet-meta jokes that eventually go on to reach AMV of the week/month status around here.

I'm probably older than most of you so I have a more difficult time understanding this hobby as the kind of adolescent phase that it's so commonly written off as, even by people who've been in it for years. I hope I'm editing for years to come, or at least until the breakdown of society sometime in the next decade or two.

I joined after 2006 (or at least actively, that is) and don't feel outlawed, and I think I could point out a few more people - most of them are just not willing to go through some critics, I'd say (or they are just pretentious with their "check my vid pls kthxbye").

One of my first posts ever was a video announcement properly entered into catalog where I stated it's new, that I hope for some critique and told this in a nice way - and because of this (the people wrote it) it got fair critique, some views and I slowly came into terms with community AFTER which I came to know inner jokes and such. There are enough kind people willing to check out your video and accept you into community - if you behave properly and you're not some kind of 1337 kid just throwing a single boochsack link.

I mean the people who just run away after first critique obtained, or the first sign that they behave badly, not the people I just pointed out, of course >.>

Lol i was gonna say...

I usually stick around for full-out critiques. It makes me sad sometimes to know that an amv i made has a lot of flaws (coughlikefamecough) but, i also know that by getting these in-depth critiques, i can improve on what i originally made and learn from it. I think a lot of people just cant handle that. They'd much rather be called a "gay wimp who cant make videos" than get an in-depth critical analysis of their amv. But people like Code have been giving me some really good advice lately, and i really am thankful for it.
