I'm not looking forward to the future here if Down with pants' plans are what I think. I take this like the console wars, the .org is the xbox. We got fans allright, just not the mainstream. But you know, like Nintendo, we will survive because of the high attach rate. Fans of the X never mess with the next best. (Fans of the org don't screw around with YT). Xbox fans don't jump ship and always return. Stupid Sony and their Youtube/ mainstream appeal.
If you do not think so... you will DIE

Should I be insulted? >_>

Honestly Slash, the issue isn't that we don't have new people coming in. The issue is that we don't have enough new people coming in to replace the veterans that have dropped off the map. And those that do come in don't get involved. A lot of what you said is true about how even the new people who sign up to the org don't involve themselves in the community. I made this point a few days ago, as had godix, and I'm sure others.

And that is the real problem. Growing membership is worthless unless it's ACTIVE membership. Which it's not.

EDIT: Given a recent search of the forums, I retract statements made about Re-Evo. They were not true, and mostly due to my own inability to recognise names and avatars.

Don't get me wrong Kionon i enjoy all work from editors as long as its good but i have yet to see a somewhat good released AMV by a editor thats been editing from 08 till now, and well i don't really expect much from a beginner but i hardly see any progress in their skill. Yes, the Re-evo studio irritated my aswell they are not that popular on YouTube with editors who have some sense in what they do into their editing. Some of them are actually pretty good but others have yet to learn how to crawl before walking. (Their non stopping abuse of their horrid effects and horrible output quality) They are not organized as most AMV groups are, they just wondered off somewhere and found the org and said "Hey lets post our videos up here since we keep hearing about this place" But it is true, they should contribute more into the community if they want something FROM the community but they are spoiled editors from all the dick riding they get from editors on YT. I agree with you bud. (Sorry if i went kind of off topic there about Re-evo but as soon as i heard they migrated to the Org i knew they would make the name YouTube Editors worst so i had to say something for some of us who still like to use both org and YouTube.)

Yeah, thats my bad i got out of line with the whole Re-evo situation. Hopefully YouTube editors who migrate to the org contribute into the forum and other activities they will not only benefit from it but also help out a community.

The community is run by people who aren't in the community.

If you mean the Administrators, we routinely bitch about that. Which is why they need to be more active themselves:

If you mean the Moderators, that is not correct. They're mostly quite active. Just most of what they do is in specific areas, and an awful lot of it is not accessible by the general membership. So, we don't see it.

Koopiskeva wrote:I think AMVs have definitely lost steam in terms of gaining popularity and the community getting larger. Also, a lot of the community has become more spread out due to Youtube and other video sharing sites, so the org itself just isn't quite the center of the AMV world anymore.

As for a lifelong hobby, I think many of us were very into AMVs at one point or another and will continue to keep tabs on this community for a long time even if we're not actively participating. So, I think the same people you're seeing from a few years ago may only still be around due to a combination of the lack of influx of new members and people just generally hanging out here despite not having anything new.

Or something.

I propose an alternate plan where the community is run by me.

No, I think Beo or Sammy mentioned it years ago, but even before YouTube, the community was being run by all of the famous Naruto editors like the guys who made Naruto's World, Whisper of the Beast, etc. Not in terms of actual "administration", but in terms of what the community was turning into. All of those editors made these really famous videos and never had any presence in the community. In fact, most of them only got famous off their one video and never made videos again.
