It looks like that one kid from the first season all grown up. I'm so confused! D: Or is that guy one of the silver-haired guy's previous lovers? I forget all their names!

Anyhow, as for the amv, I liked how you could get the gist of what was happening even if you can't understand the song or haven't seen the anime (I don't remember it at all!) I knew all their roles and everything. My favorite part for sure. Amvs that can be watched and enjoyed without seeing the anime are one of the best kind (imo).
I didn't really have anything to complain about. Nothing too bothersome about the ending. I rather enjoyed it. You've made me honestly curious about the anime once again, which is good

EDIT: and oh, thanks for the translation of the lyrics. It's nice knowing what they're saying as well. Pretty lyrics, too.

The scene of the kids was fromt he first season ye, think it was episode 8 or something...about how hiroki and akihiko became friends ^^ hiroki being the brown haired one, which is grown up in the vid, and akihiko being the silver-haired one that he was together with ^^

That was really quite awesome. Great storytelling, great flow and great everything in terms of sync and editing.

I wish the visual quality was better [though it's not a killer], and I wish you didn't have the borders thing going on around the video at the beginning. I also wish that there wasn't as much lip flap.

But still, excellent work! Can't wait to see more!

About the quality, i wished it would have been better as well. I ordered the dvd's from malasia, since they are not licensed yet in europe or america and they cost about 100 dollar if you order em from japan excluding the sending costs. Too bad indeed, but better then just downloaded quality ^^

I want to know how much of the lyric sync was intentional. Japanese being my second language (Chihiro's sorta odd accent not withstanding), I understood quite a bit of the song. Before I judge you on "scenes that didn't fit" I'd like to make sure you understood the lyrics.

If this was pure aural sync, then that will change my opinion quite a bit.

Well most of it had to be aural sincing since all i had was the translation of the lyrics (i only have a modest basic knowledge of japanese ^^) and i noticed that there are many different version of the lyrics out there which tossed around the meaning a bit, so for my part sometimes it was a but guessing what she meant. The lyrics i put on the site were the ones i thought were translated qua grammar and feeling.

I did try to lyric sync some pieces like 'in the night i sit down as if i'm dead' and the other part 'in the night i realise this infection' but ofc those were sung in english and easy to understand by all the viewers. She does sing about shatters in her heart and i tried to bring that across during the whole movie. and when she asks herself 'when have i become this weak' i also tried to bring that across.
The climax of the song was more intended ad aural, cause i wanted his feelings to pile up as if he were about to explode, and then with the last refrain i wanted him to give in as part of the story so that was more aural as well.
At any rate, feel free to give me some advice about the lyrical syncing as i could always improve on that part =)

It's incredibly hard to go by lyric translations alone. They often don't match the way information is conveyed in Japanese. So merely trying to sync according to translations of line by line, just isn't going to cut it. You have to actually know what the words mean and how they interact syntactically and grammatically. This is not possible without actually learning the syntax and grammar involved, and then at least looking up each meishi (noun) keiyoushi (adjective) and doushi (verb). Without understanding the particles, it can be hard to understand how the words interact with each other, what word gets the emphasis and is considered most important (very important part of lyric syncing), and what kind of visual picture emerges. Keeping the same words but rearranging the particles can create sentences that are both grammatically correct, but with wildly different meanings.

You would have to approach taking Japanese as its own unique structuring of thoughts in the same way you probably approached English. Given that you are from Belgium, your first language is probably French? I took French for eight years, but my ability to speak it is limited. Japanese has pretty much ended my ability to speak it. I can still read it, however.

Well actually i come from the flemish part of belgium, so i speak dutch ^^ I did japanese studies for a year, so i do know how much the language differs from any other and compared to dutch the grammar is very different. I also heard that with Japanese only a small percentage is actually spoken and the intonation and thought behind it is the biggest percentage. So you actually have to 'feel' what they insiniute so to speak.

Ofourse i don't have that feeling with it yet and as my grammar and vocabulary is still limited my translation would have been worse then the one i found.
I do think that if i would have fully understood the lyrics, i probably would have made another kind of amv and tried to let it match the lyrics more.
