I use this for all my converting, the only trouble I have with it is converting MP4's to AVI's and WMV's etc. but for everything else, it's #1 imo.

you're better off installing the codecs to your machine for MP4's. I has links to those but you'll have to pay me for them.

Haven't used SUPER myself (which is what the link is to, for those weary of clicking links to .exe files), but some members have reported bad quality output

well honestly, I'm weary about avisynth myself. and that's true, but it really depends on the encoders/codecs you have installed.
and even if I do get a bad output, I use Chroma Blur on SV9 to help reduce the noise and what not.

how well DOES avisynth work? is it buggy?

Avisynth won't compress the files but you can use it coupled with virtualdub to change most filetypes to AVI losslessly. It's probably a longer and more difficult process but it'll give you those avi's without losing any quality.
Try the amvapp, it contains various programs and plugins that are handy for video conversions.

Super sucks. Really, it breaks things when you install it. Avisynth doesnt break things, so avisynth doesnt suck.

breaks things? maybe you just didn't install it properly, it's a big app so maybe your machine isn't fast enough to run it well.
my laptop's close to new and it still gives me problems when running, imagine a dated machine. *shrugs* whatever floats your boat.

SUPER uses lots of broken experimental things and shouldn't be used ever. It uses old ffmpeg and mencoder and has some funky bugs that nobody cares about. Just stick to avisynth+x264/lagarith for pretty much everything.
