I'm trying to like Supreme Commander 2, but it pisses all over the original. Basically, it got dumbed down both gameplay wise and graphics/feature wise so it could work on the Xbox 360 (and appeal to a larger audience to make more money). The economy system got nearly killed and replaced with a retarded research system. I'm not really surprised when Chris Taylor said he was making the sequel to be easier to play and like all the other RTS games. It wouldn't of been so bad if he didn't cripple the PC version by developing the Xbox 360 version at the same time and not even attempt to keep or add back in the removed features for PC. These simultaneous PC and console releases are pissing me off. It seems that most developers are making the console version and forcing it to work on the PC later. Some developers are doing it right, like Bethesda and Valve. The PC gamer gets crippleware now; just look at CoD:MW2. Another game based off the previous game, where they had to spend the time and money to remove the features from the game code. I'm sorry, these "next gen" consoles are getting old and can't do as much as a full computer can. Hell, Steam is coming to Mac now.
Ok back to SupCom 2. In addition to the gameplay being drastically changed, the darn thing is unbalanced as crap and missing features to be patched in later. There are achievements for completing ranked games, but oh wait, ranked wasn't finished in time. Ever heard of delaying a release to finish it? Or how about a private/public beta. Supreme Commander 1 and its expansion had a several month long beta. Anyone who played SupCom:FA knows that air is over powered, but in SupCom 2 it is OP and then some. This of course would of been obvious if there was a freaking beta. Yeah, it might get patched along with ranked, but these release as fast as possible and patch later games are pissing me off. Overall, the game feels too much like a StarCraft/C&C wannabe. I personally hate any of the "Craft" RTS games and EA C&C is crap. Well, that's what Chris Taylor said he wanted it to be, so congratulations. However, it is crap compared to StarCraft. But I loved Supreme Commander because it was different than all the other RTS games. Supreme Commander 2 could of been awesome, but it got crippled to make it easier to play and work on a console. Who the hell wants to play an RTS on a console? The first SupCom had a console version that came out later and most people who played it and liked it opted for the PC version when they could. Well at least we can mod it and make maps for it. Oh wait, that isn't supported anymore. If it wasn't called Supreme Commander 2 I'd call it an ok game. However, but as a sequel to a previously epic game, this is just a slap in the face.
The only games I'm interested in are either coming out the end of this year or a year or more out. At least TF2 is always fun to play. Sigh, I want Elder Scrolls V right now!
