Motivate more people to work on hd amvs.

Post by x_rex30 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:32 am

I've seen a few editors make hd amvs, but they are always direct downloads, not local. If someone makes a 4 minute video, 720 isn't going to be a good idea to upload under 100 mb, I think. Can we have an ability to request hd uploads over 100mb? We allow multi editor projects to be uploaded upon request, why not hd videos? Like I'd like to make an hd video but I don't have a place to upload it. And I don't want to make ten version just because I can't upload a video past 100 mbs here.

I'd rather see more hd videos and less mulit editor projects if that's what it takes. Not saying I have a problem with the current multi editor upload program. Maybe my idea would cause issues. Just thought I'd ask anyways to get some ideas about whether this idea is bad or not. I'm not sure if it is, but doesn't hurt to try and ask right?

Can't there be a way we can upload it somewhere and have a visual quality check if it's that big a deal.

I just know it's very easy to get hd footage, and I'd rather watch HD videos like the ones I've seen from Nostromo.

Sorry if this seems like a silly thing to ask. Just hope there would be someway for an editor to be aloud to upload hd videos on the server and change the cap to maybe 150 to 200 mb. I know that's a lot to ask. I just want to see more hd amvs and I'm sure other people would like to see more of them as well. hehe

I've seen more than a few HD vids on local. If you have a video over 100mb, all you do is request the permission and say why (For instance, your video is HD and has a larger filesize). It's pretty simple. But not really enough editors edit in HD to make it a good idea to change the automatic cap. Those that do generally have a good grasp on compression and can keep the file under 100mb. More likely changing the cap will just cause less new people to compress their videos properly.

Though I have the feeling that in the next few years it might happen somewhere - with dropping prizes of hardware and BR arrival.

Cool, didn't know you could ask permission for hd videos. Thanks! ^__^

You could ask permission, or you could learn to compress better... although sometimes videos are just THAT hard to compress. Bashar's tale trying to get his vid under 100mb is amusing, although the issue there is that he has two audio tracks, one of which 5.1...

Also... is the limit 100MB or 100MiB?

100MiB (actually, a little over, just to make sure no one has problems with rounding)

Most people are still working from DVDs, so its pointless for them to go HD.
