I love the art in the 1800s and before. I know some of the history. Had trouble finding art in the 1900s that resembled 1800s art. So I'm not completely happy with abstract/modern art.. but at least it started to allow new creative expression.

My friend that was over at my house a few hours back could of posted his ideas here for me since he is an art major. One of the reasons he came over was to evaluate my post, and see if I'm far off or if he could add to it. Instead we did other things(by the way, he isn't the friend that did something behind my back that I just mentioned in the vent thread. He just told me about the events that may have taken place)

Abstract art is just as much art as any other form. If I like it, I like it. If I can get a good interpretation out of it, fantastic, if not, it's probably bad.

You'd be suprized how vastly different each individuals interpretation skills towards art can be. Even art in writting. Go to songmeanings and see how all over the place people can go at times with their ideas toward a songs true meaning. That is one example. I can come up with a lot more if you'd like.

What's a true meaning? What does it matter what people think the same or differently?

I think art is art. Although in some interpretations, you could say that ability to recognize abstractions behind 'abstract' art is a sociocultural mark of taste, which in turn is a mark of (socioeconomic) class. There are people who try to be friendly and "everyone has their own meaning" about it; there are people who purposely try to work against it (either through 'socialist' art or through anti-art e.g. dadaism), but all in all that's what it comes down to. If you don't get it, you're probably not socioculturally advanced enough and require moar pylons.

Always a pleasure of you to challenge my own thoughts. Even though I act like I'm more open minded than others, my mind can be stuborn and have trouble getting out of a single mindset and you've been one of the best people to break the chain of my mind being stubborn. Thanks for that.

I'm just saying you make a good point. I'd write more on this but I'm on my iphone so thought I'd make this quick little post saying thanks for sharing your perspective and I always appreciate it.

Make. what you want. If you can sell a few scribbles in reds and pinks and claim it is the visual embodiment of "love" for a million dollars, I say go for it. My definition of art is "anything a consciousness manipulates to present an idea or feeling, even if it is only observed by that consciousness" So if I drew |:> on a sticky note, and stuck it on my empty coke can I have here at my desk, I just made some art. Wanna buy it?
