Re: Catastrophic Anime scenes?
Hadashi no Gen (Hiroshima 1945, true story)
Hokuto no Ken (post apocalyptic story, unreal martial arts style, but not like Dragon Ball)
Some scenes in Trigun (when they're talking about the destructive nature of Vash in the past)
Akira (has some huge destruction, but I don't remember any crying.... )
Hmh, that's what I could think about for now....

Re: Catastrophic Anime scenes?
1. Clannad: The episode outlining Kotomi's past. A room in her house is set aflame and she's bawling her eyes out.
2. Eureka seveN: The episodes where it delves into Eureka's and Holland's SOF Unit pasts as they are both killing people left and right. Holland's past is outlined in episode 10 (I believe) and Eureka's in 9 and some other episode in the 30's. ^^;;
3. Wolf's Rain: Throughout the series, it has lots of scenes with ruined areas (specifically Darcia's Keep for the first half or so.)
4. Casshern SINS: Any episode. xD
5. Bleach: The flashback OVA/episode where Ichigo's mom died in the rain by the Grand Fisher, and Ichigo (as a child) is sobbing over his mother's corpse.
That's all that come to mind, right now.

Saikano. First episode, IIRC. Don't make me check, I really don't want to.
