What editing do you do only in premire.
Well my question is this. it really only applies to the people who are using both premire and after effects.
How much of your actual amv development is spent in premire.
and by that i mean do you line out a very ruff singular amv with ruff cuts and all. and only focus on the basic sync.
or do you add transitions and fades and opacity changes within premire.
do you add effects....
How much of your actual editing is done in premire.
the reason i ask this is because im new to this whole scene and i belive personal opinion on this would be a great resource to have.
as for right now im editing my video on a pretty singular track type of deal.
by that i mean im doing opacity changes and the like to ease my clips with the sync but other than that im pretty much saving it for premire.. also at the moment im changing scenes at every snare hit. so its kinda like a pattern.. for example it would look like this.
snare..........snare...........snare...........
of course there is alot of other things going on inbetween snares. but i was hoping to cover most of that with after effects editing..
anyways what do you do.. and does the way im doing it sound right to you?

Close calls are always the most exciting. Coming close is always the most dissapointing.

Well, I used to use a combination of Premier 6.5 and AE 5.5 (and PS 6.5) and most of my editing would be done in Premier which included masking (though I would make the masks in PS) and I basically saved AE to do things that were too complex for me to figure out in Premier to do, but that was not very often and I would simply do 1 clip, render it out, then pull it into Premier and put it on the timeline.
Now since I upgraded to CS3 I have had so far no reason to open up AE for the majority of my editing work. I say majority because I have a project I'm working on right now that I'm using AE to do the heavy lifting for my masking work since I'm doing complex masking that I can't deal with a 16 point garbage matte in premier to do. However all the rest of my editing is done in premier. This includes effects, transitions, cuts, lip sync masks, lip flap masks, basic masks, titles, ect. I've pulled in footage from other programs like particle illusion and done some composting work with stock footage as well, but all of it was combined with the video in premier.
Generally I just don't find much use for AE. I've always preferred PS for masking but I've started to come around a bit recently since I learned how to work with the pen tool. Though in the end about all I use AE for is masking characters and I just pull the compositions into premier.

Premiere to edit the entire video. Cutting and transitioning only. If I have to zoom, scale, mask, or do any of those things, I do them in AE. When I do use AE, it's to work with what I've already edited, and apply effects or tweaks one scene at a time. Also all compositing, tracking, etc. done in AE. I use Photoshop for the majority of my mask tweaking or in one case, pixelated character drawing.
AE's antialiasing, animation keying, and interpolations are much better than Premiere, imo. People say that the default plugins that are in AE are the same code used in Premiere, but I don't believe it. I can tell, from the pixels and having seen quite a few vidyas in my time, etc. :p

Premiere's pretty adequate for any kind of editing really, that's what it's for. EDITING as such is a premiere thing.
If you're doing compositing or any kind of external animation work rather than just editing existing footage, you might need AE.
I think people are forgetting what "editing" actually means

Re: What editing do you do only in premire.
With the advent of Premiere Pro, I do 99.9% of my editing in Premiere Pro since it has better zooming, scaling, panning, etc than 6.5 and below.

I use Corel video studio and AE, but in my last AMV I do all the work of editing in Premiere... I really love Premiere because creating transitions, cuts, preview and applying effects was more detailed.........,
but my marriage with Premiere was short-lived, because he could not bear her son "Media Encoder"
