:? Well... I try to explain is that there are other ways to get the sourse, without using AviSynth, use this formula (K Litle codec pack + Total Video Converter) is a simple solution to this big problem (if it is frustrated)... I use it!

You only dedicated to critique my post and does not pose a solution to the problem... if I want to critique or criticize something about me send me a PM...!!!

1. I expected this thread to be quickly locked or moved to the Video forum.
2. I wanted to give James a chance to ask for help, and in more specific terms than in his 1st post. Until then, I cannot attempt to pose a solution to his problems.
3. I simply couldn't tell if your post was a helpful suggestion or something off topic, I just didn't know what to make of it. Image

 Sorry but saying that eadfaglolz "goes into semi-excruciating detail" is a real exaggeration. Most of the topics were simplified and there is a fair deal of things that were left out. :P

AviSynth was first released in May 2000. :P

Yes, that means AviSynth predates the .Org - albeit only by a few months. Not that AviSynth 0.1 would be anywhere near remotely as usable as we know today, but still...

The general point I was trying to make, at least, is that before you use a filter, know A) what it does, and if relevant, B) how it works under the hood. A) is what determines the situations you feel it necessary to use said filters, and B) ensures that you know it'll work before you try to use it (although some of the task of getting filters to work is trial-and-error, but the Source plugins are mostly straightforward about how they access files, so knowing how they do that will let you know if it'll work before you happen to waste your time...or you'll know how to set things up on the system so said Source filters will work, as is the case for AVISource and DirectShowSource).

why do we need to know B though? That's the whole point of this, why not just edit? Why do we need to read a whole 500 page encyclopedia just to make a simple amv?

don't get me wrong, I think B is VERY important but I just think it should come AFTER A (and the edit) not come before it. I'd rather make my own mistakes and learn from them, we don't all want to learn the same way, if we did we'd be robots.

You don't need to know any of that to make an AMV. You're free to ignore all the guides and advice from people with experience. You also don't need to know anything about your ingredients or cooking methods to cook. You're free to ignore all the cooking shows and cook books. How's your meal going to come out though? Who's going to want to eat it?
