I consider myself to primarily be a Drama editor. So with this in mind, I really enjoy amvs with good concepts and themes. But for the most part, about 90% of Naruto amvs fall into one of these 3 categories in terms of theme. "Naruto's inner Kyubi struggle", Sasuke's curse mark struggle", or "Naruto and Sasuke are rivals and best friends that fight each other in a valley struggle". Another 4% consist of Sakura vs ino themes. 4 more percent for videos that consist of Sakura loving Sasuke, Naruto loving Sakura, or some random love triangle. And the last 2% are good videos that are unique but are lost in a endless sea of shitty youtube amvs.

That is why I don't watch Naruto amvs anymore. Although.....last week, I did watch a really cool one called "Debut".

I will echo that you do whatever you want. It's your video. However, I will be brutally honest with you: I won't watch it, and neither will most of the people who are regulars on the site. Your reception is likely to be short, you may even be actively trolled. Just saying you won't impress people is an understatement. I think people are tiptoeing around what would be their real reaction since you asked so nicely.

Fair warning, your initial assessment was correct: as a community we take a negative view of Naruto as a source and rarely practice what we preach when it comes to "source doesn't matter." If we want to take a moment of self-reflection, we have to admit that all sources are equal, but some sources are more equal than others. And Naruto? Less equal.

Do not want.

My name is just my Xbox Live Gamertag, I didn't put much thought into it.

Well, I'm still gonna do what I want. If people don't like it, screw them. Just for notes, the AMV I'm making is based on Jiraiya vs. Pain. Yeah, I downloaded the episodes illegally. I really wanted to do JvP and I own everything Naruto that's out in UK on DVD, so I don't consider myself a pirate. ^_^

I'm not saying there's a chance I'd like what you're preparing, but that actually is a cool way to think while making a video. Try not to keep that way of thinking upon announcing it though, as any constructive criticism beyond "that sucked" can make you better.

Which, in a way of thought, leads to another thing that's wrong with usual Naruto amv's. Most people here that could actually say useful things to you most likely wouldn't watch it, and even if they did they'd be sick of having said the same things they'd have to say about it all over again, so they just wouldn't bother. ):

But yeah, to elaborate on why the lack of criticism you will receive is bad, from personal experience I have to say I found criticism on my old videos quite useful. They certainly played their part in me getting better and not making the same shit all over again. Though a small part, as I believe the thing that improves one most in the beginning of their "hobby-career" is watching more good videos, thinking about how they would go about creating anything they see, as well as the exact opposite, seeing what's been done and trying not to imitate them so as to be unique. But that small part can make a big difference too after a certain point..

I love critisism and feedback. If people think something sucked, they should at least say why they think so. Not just watch 5 seconds, see Sasuke's face and stop the video, comment- complain lol. (got to say that I hate Sasuke.) I plan to make lots of AMVs with my spare time at college, because I enjoy watching the outcome. So being a highly critical person when watching other people's work, if I'm satisfied with my outcome, other people who know AMVs well should think positively, too.

That's a pretty arogant way of looking at it. -_- anyway, I plan on making loads. This first is the only Naruto based one. I didn't know it was so over done on this website and I'm suprised there's so little Bleach. (don't like Bleach.) But I thought it was popular. I wana dig down and use some great underated series like Salaryman Kintaro and Getbackers. (Y) for now, though Naruto is a great series, one of my favorites and my AMV will show that.

For an honest answer for once, all I can say is "make it good". Now that you have a general idea of what you want to make, do it in a way that's your own and unique. Make it stand out in the flood of Naruto videos out there.

Another sad truth of this community is that you won't be taken seriously unless you have a long and established reputation here. The more well known and established editors can get away with all the Naruto and DBZ videos they want because everyone already knows them and they know how to put out good work. They can literally shit out turds with their names on it and people will still flock to them. Sadly, that's the way it's always been. It seems like a catch 22 trying to get established when nobody's going to give you a chance when you're just starting.

You might want to start participating in the opinion exchange forum once your video is released and after a few months/years, start hitting up amv contests where your work can be seen on the big screen. There's no guarantee that people will love your work, but I can't think of any other better way to establish your reputation.

I made 45+ DBZ videos before making my first serious contest video. I used to be embarassed by that, but now I embrace it with no regrets.

lol Emotive makes it sound like some of us know what we're doing :) lol.

also. Don't admit to using illegal footage and crap we really don't need to know. Typically if it's something someone can troll on you about, it's better left unsaid. Many of us who care to give solid advice can see if it's illegal or not just by noting the quality, but the stupid trolls can't cuz most times their just in it for the lulz. Un-needed information, your just opening yourself up to criticism of the worst kind.
If you do not think so... you will DIE

I can see what you're saying and if I wanted to be renowned as a great AMV maker/editor to thousands of random people, that would be helpful. But my only true motive in making such videos is that I want to watch my favorite scenes/fights with a smooth, fuzzy feel. As we've sussed, the majority of all Naruto AMVs are similar and bad. People rely on the popularity of the show to make thier AMVs respected just because it has a Rasengan or Saukra crying in (which there's plenty of.) Jiraiya vs. Pain with some orchestrated music is what I've got my heart set on. Why? Because I want to watch a good J-man vs. Pain AMV, but there aren't any around and if there were, it would be bad, becauase most people don't care enough to make a good AMV. And what i have so far (about 40 seconds) has turned out really well. I want Nauro fans and other Anime fans to enjoy my AMV because hopefully they'll watch it and acknowledge the timing and choice of scenes which is all I'm really concentrated on for my first effort. The outcome of my Naruto AMV will be great in my oppinion- the oppinion of a person with high standards.

Naruto isn't dead yet. ^_-
