How to find a song for an AMV

Post by kiyablossom » Tue Dec 22, 2009 1:23 am

I’m having difficulty finding a song for an AMV I want to do on a character from an anime. I have been searching for months by searching AMVs on you tube and other video sites, by looking up songs other people have suggested and by even uploading a video asking for suggestions on a song to use for this character and anime. I have also searched songs using the characteristics and themes of the character and anime. Even with all the songs others have suggested and the songs I have found through my searches, none of the songs fit the character and anime I want to do the AMV on. The issue isn’t finding a song for an AMV about an anime in general. That I can do easily. The problem is, is that I can’t find a song that would go specifically with the character from the anime that I want to do the AMV about. Currently, I have a break from school and would like to get the AMV done during the break. I also have a few people counting on me to do this AMV. For any AMV makers out there (or anyone else that can help), how do you go about finding songs for your amvs? Do you have any tips that could help me find the perfect (or close to perfect) song for this character in the anime?

1) Youtube surfing
2) Going through my music collection on iTunes
3) Asks friends for song requests [and does a self-iron-chef]
4) AMV watching

5) Search through my Pandora playlists
6) Be really imaginative when it comes to interpreting what each song is about. The more you can bend a song's meaning to your own, through your editing or by cutting out parts of the audio that don't match, the more songs you'll be able to use.

Try random Google searches by choosing a word or theme that represents something from the anime. So for example, if there's betrayal in the anime, google something like "songs with betrayal lyrics". I've actually found a few good songs this way by falling down the rabbit hole and following my nose. :)
