Heroine + sidekick relationship [revised]
I'm looking for a generally upbeat anime that features a relationship between the main character and his/her sidekick or assistant. Not necessarily a romantic relationship, but definitely one that shows devotion. Two examples that I can think of right now are Chrno Crusade and The Familiar of Zero (I think, haven't seen that one personally).
Bonus points if the anime has lots of snowy scenes. Any ideas?
[EDIT: revised description below.]

I don't remember if there were any snowy scenes in Slayers or not.
At least I think that fits what you're going for but maybe not.

Re: Heroine + sidekick relationship
Burst Angel - Meg and Jo
Hellsing - Alucard and Integra, or Alucard and Victoria Seras
Adventures of Mini-Goddess - There's an episode where the air conditioner malfunctions and turns the room into a snowy landscape, and Gan-chan (the rat) has to help them out...
Samurai Champloo - Jin, Mugen and Fuu
Grenadier - Rushuna, Yajiro and Mikan
Scrapped Princess - Pacifica, Shannon and Raquel
Le Chevalier D'Eon - When D'Eon is his sister Lia, there are quite a few scenes with her and the three companions
Revolutionary Girl Utena - Utena and Anthy
Kiki's Delivery Service - Kiki and Jiji
Laputa: Castle in the Sky - Sheeta and Pazu
Excel Saga - Excel and Hyatt (or Excel and Menchi, if you wanted to stretch it a bit)
...I'm sure I'll come up with more after I think about it for a bit.
Did you only want a heroine, or will a male main character and a sidekick do as well?
Edit: How about Cowboy Bebop - Ed and Ein?

This. Plus, there is a long stretch in a snowy mountain pass.CorpseGoddess wrote:Grenadier - Rushuna, Yajiro and Mikan
Hmm, no one has mentioned Cardcaptor Sakura?
Crest / Banner of the Stars might work. Although Jinto is the main character, he's technically Lafiel's assistant/sidekick. Not sure if the series could be considered 'upbeat', though.

Re: Heroine + sidekick relationship
I feel that just about every single episode of Gunslinger girl would be useful to you. Each of the female main characters have a different but very complicated relationship with their sidekick/ handler/ sibling/ "father figure". Yeah....all the male main characters have to play each of those roles in the life of their female assistant.

Darker than Black perhaps? The first season showed an evolution of Hei and Rin's relationship. I've been watching the second season currently, and it appears there will be more to their story as well.

Tweeny Witches - The three main characters (female) all rely on each other throughout the whole series.

Michiko to Hatchin might work, there's no snowy scenes that I know of, though, it's mostly indoors/desert type atmosphere.

Re: Heroine + sidekick relationship
Thanks for your suggestions! I'll check out some of these shows.
But actually, I was confused (or confusing myself) when I made my original post and didn't accurately describe what I was looking for. If I can revise my description, here's what I actually want:
- two characters who have a devoted (if not romantic) relationship
- a magical element, showing one character held by supernatural forces and the other going to rescue him/her
- colorful art/animation that can go well with dancey music
- snowy scenes
A close one would be Video Girl Ai. It has everything except for the colorful art/animation (I guess I'd prefer something relatively modern).

Re: Heroine + sidekick relationship [revised]
hmm this is a tough one....
A few come to mind that meets some but not all of the requirements....
Noin - has snowy scenes and has a guy-girl relationship who are kinda dedicated to each other, but I don;t know if it will match the supernatural theme you want.
Ayakashi - also has a snowy scene in the begining when they are kids, but they seem to be seperated when they are older by the second eps, and i havn't yet watched enough to know if they are reunited. P{lus that one may be too gory for what you want. (kinda like elfin leid with people getting killed left and right... but not quite as graphic)
shakugan no shana - matches most of the things you want, but not sure if there was snowy scenes.
"This ugly yet beutiful world" - also has most of the things you want but like shana, not sure on the snowy scenes part.
Thats all i can think of at the moment, I'll post again if I think of any better suggestions :O
