Ed Koch, perhaps?

I tried to make an AMV show for my campuses student-run TV station a few months ago. The programming director said they can';t show AMVs legally.

But, considering what JBone said, it may be different in NYC. So, in any event, best of luck.

No, it was *long* before Ed Koch... back when public access cable TV stations were brand-spinkin'-new.

Don't play any of mine, because then the FBI may come by and see/smell the bodies.

Its true what most of you say about "copyright material" however i will guarantee you that 94% that no one will sue you. Believe me here in NYC its different. They don't care. The only two things that is prohibited is advertisement and sexual intercourse. So i can show hentai/porn films just as long as its censored.

Think about it, Anime/Record companys won't sue you because (a) free advertisement and (b) Your not getting any profit. So they don't care. I had a public access like 3-4 years ago about anime/games as well. I showed about 2-3 brand new games a week. There was this bootleg store in china-town that sold the games for $10 each. So i spend around $80 a month or so. At that time i was a game avid.

And I never got sued I would have about 400-700 people watching my show that's very little compare to the population NYC has. I am getting the P.O Box with in this or next week. Just send in your AMV by CD or if you can by VHS. Its up to you. If you have any questions please post them. Here are some some AMV that i am interested in airing.

Tainted Donuts ( Best Most creative video ever made )
Kenshin - Enigma - Smooth Studio ( LOVE YOUR VIDEO! ^_^ )
Soul Taker - Mission -Wonka ( I 4got the studios name )
Street Fighter - Face to face "Otaku Vengeance" ( First AMV i seen )
Furi- Kuri - Shameless rock ( GREAT VIDEO! )

If you have any questions please ask away!

A long time ago I was in a band and we cut a demo tape with a cover song on it. I asked about licensing and rights and all that and the engineer in the studio explained to us how the law worked and how technically you are supposed to get a mechanical license in order to sell a demo with a cover song on it... but that the profit margin for the tapes was so small, our visibility as a band was so low and that we were probably going to wind up spending more on the tape than we'd make back in sales. Labels don't go after local bands unless they're REALLY profiting off the work of their artists.

In the case of cable access, no one is making any money. at all. You're going to wind up paying money out of pocket to put it on the air.

Bottom line is that you really should secure the licenses, but no one is going to notice anyway. So do it and have fun. You're not going to get in any trouble, you're not going to get charged for licenses, you'll probably never see a cease and desist letter.
