New member here.. and stuff
I've been watching amv's for years really. Never actually tried to make one until now.Click here if you want to see it. (First 40 seconds could have been used better tho.][/url] My personal opinion on special effects in amv's is that i rarely see them done well... at all.. so I use windows movie maker. it's all i really need, right? Second, where do you guys get your clips? The AMV in my link was made out of 2 i downloaded off youtube.

Yep, you don't need anything other than WMM (though WMM has some limitations that I would really groan about.)
I get my clips from DVD in accordance with the org code of ethics.
If you're looking for effects done right, check out this thread in the recommendations forum.

what limitations would it have? or, whats the worse one? I can probably compensate for that with some kind of software >>Kariudo wrote:Yep, you don't need anything other than WMM (though WMM has some limitations that I would really groan about.)

Re: New member here.. and stuff
if I remember correctly (and I may not, because the last time I used WMM was about...5 years ago,) WMM only has 1 video layer (I think I'm at 6 or 7 in my current project,) can't edit down to the frame-by-frame level, can't export using a codec of my choosing and the basic effects are pretty lacking (like video speed...It's limited to 50% or 200%)

-yeah im not sure how to make layers on video's with WMM, i don't use it much.... I'll move onto something a little more complex later on probably. A little early though.Kariudo wrote:if I remember correctly (and I may not, because the last time I used WMM was about...5 years ago,) WMM only has 1 video layer (I think I'm at 6 or 7 in my current project,) can't edit down to the frame-by-frame level, can't export using a codec of my choosing and the basic effects are pretty lacking (like video speed...It's limited to 50% or 200%)
-you can sort of do frame-by-frame but it's slow and tedious compared to some other software i suppose...
-Also, I have a video converter program seperate from wmm, but the codec it saves it in works for me. You can even set it's size which effects the quality.
why would you have to edit the video speed by more than 50% less or 200% more?

Re: New member here.. and stuff
wmm can go down to about the 2 frame level IIRC, and unless you meticulously plan your amv and make clips with something that can go down to frame-by-frame you will get orphan frames somewhere at some point in time.
many of the other people here use virtualdub, megui or Zarx264GUI for final encodes, but not being to export uncompressed or with a lossless codec out of wmm means the quality degrades (the amount of degradation depends on how you export. A/V quality is a bigger thing here than on the tube)
I usually stay between 66% and 150% when I do alter the speed, but there are some times where higher speed can be used effectively (Personally, I hate when footage is obviously sped up or slowed down.) My point was that with WMM you are limited to 50% or 200%, you can't choose any value you want...like say 78.56% (many other programs afford you that freedom.)
