Re: in before person y?
I had the same idea as Cenit with his Full Metal Panic video/Rebirthing.... and that like 1 year befor release... but it ist ok, his video is much better as i could do. And i never had such situation befor and i dont get bad, becaus that can happen, if the video was not that good. I try to do it better and release it also, if someone said i copy it, well i can only say the truth that i had the same idea befor the other video was released. When the persons dont trust me, well i cant do anything against it.

Serious videos yeas, all the time. Which is when I rush them (usually for con deadline) and they turn out like crap.
So this year I decided to stop giving a shit. And what do you know, my videos actually look good.
Comedy videos, not in the slightest. My ideas come from depth of filth and wrong that very few will ever ponder.
There has yet to be a single comedy video that I have done recently that has been emulated for better nor worse.

Well comedy is a dying... and comedy has a lot to do with personality and your own personal sense of humour so I don't think it'll be easy to get the same idea as someone =P

That's a coping mechanism, not a universally true statement. Case in point: popular comedians. Individual comedians become popular with large swaths of society - it all boils down to 1 part content and 4 parts delivery. Comedy videos don't tend to fail because they fail to use good content (though some do) - they most often fail because the creator sucks at the delivery.OropherZero wrote:Well comedy is a dying... and comedy has a lot to do with personality and your own personal sense of humour so I don't think it'll be easy to get the same idea as someone =P

Just that poor reception in comedy is (in a great number of cases) more likely failed timing (poor execution / lack of skill) than a difference of opinion on humor (unfunny concept).
Even more summed up - comedy isn't hard because there's a wide array of things people find funny, it's hard because most people suck at making comedy videos.

Example: I have a banner in my sig. It points to a video that was just one big penis joke. I'm told the concept is pretty funny. The amount of material on the subject is enormous. The execution was shoddy and unrefined. That's why it failed. Much like this bit here i'm doing.

If your going to use the brand new/just released on the radio song, then it's something you have to worry about. Expecially if your using whatever they are showing right now on AdultSwim.
Now want to up in a level. Myself and another creator entered a contest with the exact same Audio/video combination. We both came up with the videos independantly. There were problem with the contest I don't want to go into, but it would have been interesting to have both videos shown, as we both covered the subject very differently. Looking back, would I have not made the video or entered it, knowing someone else was doing the same thing. In this case, no way. I was using my favorite series and the video had alot of personal and deep meaning to it. I wasn't making it for an audience but for myself. I entered it to a contest because heck may as well show off what I did.

Here is a good answer. As long as other people have access to what you have access to, there might be videos with the same music/anime/concept. But that should not stop you from creating what you feel driven to create, and put your own personal touch into it. Even if you end up in a situation like anneke was in, so what? You wanted to make it, make it.anneke wrote:I was using my favorite series and the video had alot of personal and deep meaning to it.
I have a video idea that would probably be long and boring to everybody else, but I'm still gonna do it because it's one of my favorite bands/anime, and it has deep personal meaning. It's the kinda thing that other people probably wouldn't get, but that won't stop me from making it.
