What is art?
Rabindranath Tagore defins art as "the response of man's creative soul to the call of the Real."
So my question is are AMVs the response of man's creative soul to the call of the Real?

I believe so, because the adept (the editor in this case) may reach one of those rare moments that spell illumination - aware of the light of the consciousness that illumines our consciousness as the sun dawns on the sleeping earth and bathes it in effulgence.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see.aesling wrote:I believe so, because the adept (the editor in this case) may reach one of those rare moments that spell illumination - aware of the light of the consciousness that illumines our consciousness as the sun dawns on the sleeping earth and bathes it in effulgence.

Re: What is art?
If we attribute spatiality to AMVs, then this "response to the Real" must manifestly be conceived in terms of the kind of response which that entity possesses. AMVs are essentially not a creative soul; and its "spatiality" cannot signify anything like occurrence at a position in 'man's response', nor can it signify man's creativity at some place. Both of these are kinds of art which belong to entities encountered in art.

Re: What is art?
I have found in earlier discussions about this topic that it is all mainly opinion. But people will stubbornly cling to their own point of view, as though everything depended on it. Yet our opinions have no permanence; like autumn and winter, they gradually pass away.

Re: What is art?
Seeing this —probably being a troll thread— has already been deluged in bullshit, I'll keep it at.
Art is anything created deliberately by humans with the first and foremost purpose being the stimulation of emotion. It's as simple as that really. Being "art" does not presume whether a work is good or not, so most of the debate comes in from deciding whether something is good or shit.
