When you get to the point of quoting wikipedia or the dictionary for the definition of art, you can tell that the argument has gone too far.
Some people will just never accept certain things as a form of art.
Personally I agree with Koop. You make something and call it art, and therefore it is art. Of course just because it's art doesn't mean it's good- but that's another argument.

I don't think the question should be whether or not AMVs are art, but how artistic are AMVs. AMVs, as part as the remix culture, will only be as artistic derivative works can get. Which to my interpretation, they will lack originality, and the only "originality" they can claim is how much they can make the work less like the original source(s) (which may or may not be a good thing).

Some videos can be artistic, but the rest are probably no more artistic than a crude drawing with crayons of a kid with his family in front of their house. It may mean something to the creator and maybe his/her parents/family, but probably doesn't mean anything to everyone else. Probably repeated koop in the interview, in that case I agree with him, but I can't really tell because the streaming on that site sucks with this connection I got :|

This interviewer is a moron; I only sat through 3 minutes before I had to turn it off. His reasoning behind why Auriga was art was superficial and uneducated.
