Nightmare with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0a

Post by MakaAlbarn » Sat Sep 12, 2009 7:21 pm

I just bought a new laptop. It's an HP dv4 special edition with 4gb ram and 2.2 ghz Dual Core Processor.
However when I try to load my Soul Eater 1280 x 720 raws into Sony Vegas they lag like crazy.
I put in simple avi files and tried to render a .mp4 file with only 320x whatever resolution and it crashes or freezes while rendering.
The timeline is only 4seconds long...

The Soul Eater files are 500mb each and are by Zero-raws or Yousei raws D-TX 1280x720 x 264 aac. I don't want to lose the resolution because I want to make a really high quality AMV. I don't know how other people are able to do intricate complex amvs when I can't even get 4 seconds to work.

In task manager the second I open that sony vegas file the physical memory usage jumps to 2.64 gb...

What in the world am I doing wrong?

Oh and I'm running Windows 7. I've already tried using the compatibility feature to make it run as xp or vista. I had these same issues in vista and xp anyway...

First off, DO NOT use downoaded raws. Whenever possible, buy the dvds.
And you said everything I needed to know when you stated the codec. Vegas doesn't work well with x264, usually it'll say it's an unsupported filetype or just crash. So forget about the raws and if you want to make a video the right way, get the dvds.

I always get anime dvds when it comes out, but my magic dvd ripper doesnt seem to work right and never leaves the output files 1280 x 720. Do normal mp4 files work just fine in sony? Or will they also lag to death?

Like I said, you shouldn't be editing with those files in the first place. But if you absolutely have to, there are methods to get it into vegas.

Depends on your definition of normal. If you're still thinking about x264, forget about it. Here's what you do:
Use ffmpegsource (you need the plugin first) to open the video in avisynth, open that in Vdub, and create a lossless avi file. Use that for editing.

Ok I got the videos to work. Then I started to mask and the damn mask jumps around the screen. The source file was just sitting there, but when played or rendered it jumps around. How do I make it stay put?

Here's the clip. I posted it on youtube. It was working fine and now all it does is jump like this when it renders.

Of course it doesn't. DVDs have data stored in 720x480. If you want HD footage, you have to buy the BluRay Discs. Of course to rip BRDs you'll need a BRD player.
However, I'm afraid to tell you that Soul Eater is available only in DVD as the BRDs were never made to begin with. My guess is that, as most of the shows, it was just made in 480p and upscaled when aired. Perhaps upscaled well, but still, it lacks the detail of the actual HD, so you're better off downscaling those raws or, better solution, using the DVDs, since they are likely in a better quality, and potentially have an higher detail.
