AMV Open Contest

Post by siragin » Wed Sep 02, 2009 12:30 am

This will be the second AMV contest here at J2 Graphics. Unlike the first contest, this contest has no theme. That means that this is an open contest and your video can be about anything you want. View more information at Open AMV Contest.

From the site:
# Entries must be no shorter than :30s no longer than 2:30 minutes ( This is not including the credits)
# Video resolution must be no smaller than 640 x 480 pixels and at a frame rate of 29.97 fps
# You may use subtitle footage if you wish but be warned that many people do not like sub titles and it may hurt your chances of winning.
# Video's must be at least 95% anime.
# Acceptable file formats are wmv, avi, divx, flv, mov, and mpeg.Stay away from “exotic” or “new” codecs. For example, RMVP is a codec that is new and problematic to open.
Video files should be no bigger than 100mb
2:30 is a bit short...and another page says up to 7 minutes...
I assume RMVP should really be RMVB

Sorry about that. That was the rules for the previous contest. This contest has a limit of 30s to 7 mins. Besides that, the same rule apply I will change that later on today.

Eh, crap. Clicked on the "contest" button and missed the "rules" button.

Still some questions:

- You say the videos may not have nudity, but what about gore?
- What audio codecs are acceptable, and at what sample rates?
- Is joint stereo audio acceptable?
- Can we send an MPEG-2 at 23.976fps encoded with the 3:2 pulldown flag?

Scintilla: No nudity can be in the video but blood and gore is fine. Audio codec is up to you. If you choose a low mono audio output then it may hurt your video in the end. The audio sampling is all up to you, the choice you make can either help or hurt your video.

And all videos will have to have a 29.97-30fps. This is just standard for any digital media that will be viewed on the computer. Mpeg-2 is fine since it is in the mpeg family (mpg, mpeg-2, mpeg-4,) The resolution can be anything as long as it is no smaller than 640x480.

ExSphere: If you don't want to enter, then fine don't enter. But saying that it will fail does not help anything.

The reason I asked is because the 3:2 pulldown flag should ensure that playback on interlaced devices does indeed happen at 29.97fps interlaced...

Quick question: where do we submit our video? I've been making amv's for a while, but this is my first competition I've decided to enter.

Scintilla: It all depends on how you got the anime footage. If you ripped it from a dvd and converted it to an mpeg file, or if you got it off the internet then your video source will already be running at 30fps. But yes you can use the 3:2 pulldown if you want to.

ivanduzer: On the site go to the submit video page and it will give you instructions on how to submit your video.
