Mostly nice article about Tube's point of view on AMVs which is sadly not talking about YT.
Only thing that imho fits more to orgs point of view is about that time-consuming fact.

Eh, the only thing that bothered me were the examples of the trope. It read more like a wish list of vids people want to see than one of actual commonly used things. The first example is Simple Plan as audio, is that really something that's oh so common to see? Linkin Park isn't mentioned until like 1/4 the way down, and that'd be my primary example if I were doing the page.
If anyone should get pissy, it'd be the vidding or machinima community. The trope should cover AMVs, vidding, and machinima but it's pretty dominated by amvs with barely a mention of the other two. I think there was a sole reference to Heroes and Halo in the examples and that was about it. Although from what I can tell, the line about being obsessed over the show is fairly true of vidding so perhaps that explains the line.
"Just like with Fan Fic, Sturgeons Law applies when it comes to the overall quality of the videos." - Truer words have never been spoken.

It's weird though. It's like there's a majority filter (i.e. you recognize that the majority is shit and therefore stereotype it all as shit) on fan vidding, fan art, and fan fiction, but when you get outsider analysis on stuff like cosplay, they seem to apply a minority filter to their understanding and pick out just the gems to see how much time/effort/thought goes into it, completely bypassing the 1001 people that raided the salvation army to toss together a half-assed L outfit that are standing near by. Funny how that works...godix wrote:"Just like with Fan Fic, Sturgeons Law applies when it comes to the overall quality of the videos." - Truer words have never been spoken.

After the first list of all the common crap, the writer actually goes to point out several top notch videos that were time consuming and considered gems and said that the videos were worth watching, perhaps their format was wrong and no one really read past the common crap list (which I found a bit humorous), but I didn't see anything in the article to be too pissy about aside from calling us a bit obsessed, but you know? some of us are a bit obsessed
who cares!
I make videos to shows I really like and rarely to ones I don't like... I don't think I've had an actual hardcore "obsession" since my Star Trek days, but I really don't care if someone calls me a geek or a nerd..

If you get an account with TV Tropes, like I do, you can look at the editing history and see how many people edited and wrote the article. I mainly update the Slayers anime page there.

Cosplayers show titties. Real life titties. AMVs just can't compete with that.BasharOfTheAges wrote:It's weird though. I'd wager that for every cosplay-positive fangirl or boy, there are 3 assholes making fun of Cosplay Failures. It's just too easy a target, and anyone can join in.BasharOfTheAges wrote:...but when you get outsider analysis on stuff like cosplay, they seem to apply a minority filter to their understanding and pick out just the gems to see how much time/effort/thought goes into it, completely bypassing the 1001 people that raided the salvation army to toss together a half-assed L outfit that are standing near by. I saw a guy at a con with a large sign saying "L is for Lazy cosplay!". The backlash has started.
