The Fan Fic of the new millennium. In a nutshell, the basic concept is to take footage from your favorite TV show, set the scenes to your favorite music, maybe add some Fan Art or fansubbing, put it all together in a digital movie maker on your PC, upload it to a video streaming site online, and wait for the comments to pour in.

You guys can't be serious...?
Well I create/watch amvs because I enjoy doing it and talking with friends... It's not about obsessing over the shows at all. Sure I like the shows but obsession? No. Obsession would lead to alot worse then just amvs.
For one person who has never probably even made an amv to go about giving the reasoning behind everyone who does make amvs... ... I'm just gonna stop there.

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

[quote]It's not the most productive activity in the world.[quote]
A hobby isn't suppose to be productive. It's suppose to be fun.
The writer seems to be very passionate about copyright laws. Just like us being passionate about amvs. It sucks that the industry can't keep up with the technology to protect their copyrighted things, but this is what happens when it's impossible to identify the people breaking the law. When there are no incentives to follow law then people will break it.

I kinda missed the part about being obsessive over a show when watching an AMV. I have seen a lots of AMV's from sources I don't know (and bet pretty much everyone that watches AMV's also did once), which completely nulls that fact. It's not like you watch a part of a series or movie on youtube because you're obssesive.Eva-Fan wrote:You guys can't be serious...?

And I don't think he needs to make an AMV to understand that, I don't think he would anyway.

While everything in the article obviously isnt absolutely 100% accurate.. thats really just how most people view amvs. AMVs after all are a nerdy hobby, and while most people here dont edit to express their obsession over a show, there are people who do (like myself), and yt is the place where most of the public see amvs for the first time, and it doesnt help that most of the time people come across them unintentionally when searching for other things like music and official music videos and such.
i just think its kind of silly people are getting offended over this. I mean its a nerdy hobby.. but theres nothing wrong with partaking in a nerdy hobby so lets not get our panties in a bunch about what other people think about it?
Just my two cents.

I read through the entire article and don't understand what all the RAEG is about. Truthfully I even found myself agreeing with most of what he was saying. There really isn't all that much to be discussed here, it's the opinion of one person who doesn't even make AMVs. Just think of it as an insight into how this hobby looks like from the outside.

To repeat what Vivaldi said, it's probably more than one person, and we can toss our tussins into the very same article if any of us are so inclined.Pas wrote:it's the opinion of one person who doesn't even make AMVs.
