The 'Tube is using my AMV for advertising - anyone else?
I apologize in advance if this is old news, but I just noticed it and am extremely curious as to whether anyone else has experienced it.
The 'Tube had some downtime the other day, and when it came back the site was sporting a bit different design and functionality. At first I didn't pay to much attention, but then I discovered that about 40 seconds or so into one of my AMVs over there, a little thing pops up in the corner of the video advocating the purchase of the song IN my AMV from iTunes or Amazon.
While I find it somewhat disturbing to think that the 'Tube has paid enough attention to my video to decide it can make money off it, I do find it quite interesting to theorize that this is quite the reversal of roles, in terms of permission to use someone else's copyrighted material that - in many cases - the lack of has caused AMVs to be taken OFF the 'Tube. Someone out there IS now using my AMV for gain (and it's not me). Certainly iTunes and Amazon and the 'Tube stand to profit from my video if it sells music, and I can't believe the copyright holder would let that happen unless they also got a piece of the pie (somehow).
So, again, just curious as to whether anyone else has noticed the 'Tube using their videos for advertising purposes. Associated fuss and discussion also welcome.

Doesn't happen at my side. I believe there must be some countries affected by this, and mine isn't one of them.
Anyway, there wouldn't be anything you could do about it, after all, it's their webpage, it's their rules... and believe me you would even hold less opinion on the matter due to the fact you're uploading what is copyrighted material (AMV's).

I think it's a good thing. It means the AMV I made isn't going anywhere, but if it's WMG or Aniplex related I just put it up here instead.

all i'm saying is, it's not a matter of "the tube is paying attention to me" but more like they have a system in place that can already determine what the audio is so they are able to use that to put advertising on them. You shouldn't feel so special about it, it's only a piece of software they run on every video... just means they were able to figure out what your audio was and also makes it easier for them to determine if it should be removed due to DMCA take down requests.Arashinome wrote:They don't.Pwolf wrote:i think they do that with every video they have

I'd never seen it before, so that's why I was rather surprised and was wondering if anyone else had run into it. I sort of assumed it had something to do with the revamp they just went through, since immediately afterwards the advertising started to show up, but it sounds like this isn't anything terribly new for AMVs.
If they want to slap advertising on my videos, there's not much I can do about it, of course (not that I would do anything, anyways). I'd rather have that ad blurb than my video taken down, after all.

It's not feeling special about it, that IS what's going on but not quite. Apparently they only leave your video up if it's getting good feedback as well for the most part. Usually they'll take the video down with that audio system you mentioned but in some cases they leave it up. I'm not entirely sure why.Pwolf wrote:all i'm saying is, it's not a matter of "the tube is paying attention to me" but more like they have a system in place that can already determine what the audio is so they are able to use that to put advertising on them. I wish they would have did that for mine, instead of muting it.
