How many AMV contests can one enter?

Post by Onibakun » Thu Aug 06, 2009 1:55 am

How many AMV contests can one enter without being looked down upon by peers? Considering you enter the same AMV but to different contests. Is there a number of contests you enter till it seems TOO many? I just don't what the unwritten law of entering contests says. Does it even matter what your peers think if you enter more than 8 contests?

I'd like to know how my fellow amv editors think about this. (If there's already a thread about this. Please post and I will close this before the mods do)

It depends on whether your video is good enough to be a finalist. If it's not then really no one will care that it was shown in an overflow type amv screening at several cons.

Most of the bigger cons have anti-trolling rules, but these rules are limited in its power. Many cons *especially in the summer* amv datelines happens around the same time so one amv can win 4 or 5 awards *if it's that good* within an one month period which is trolling.

Now realize this happens only to a very few editors. For you I suggest to not worry about it and send your amvs to many cons you want. If you end up winning a bunch of awards and get accuse of trolling then see it as a welcoming party for making it in the big leagues. After that be more kind to the less fortunate editors and send your masterpieces to fewer cons.

If you have one "enough" (a pair or so) of awards with it than I think it's really time to step aside and let others the chance to win something.

it also depends on the speed of your editing, I'd say.

If you get out a vid every week, trolling with a single vid on ten contests is probably pretty serious.

If you get out one vid in two years, ten contests might be fine (though maybe somewhat borderline), since after that you'll still have a year and a half pause.

I generally tend to enter cons that I'm going to physically be attending, unless somebody asks me to enter a video into a con I can't make. Also depends on how the video does. If I win some stuff right away, I might be less likely to enter a bunch more contests.

(though when I finish my big vid I'm gonna enter like 6 or 7 and try to actually go to them all |:> )

I took that more as one video winning a contest in each country, which seems less like affirmative action.

What I'd like to know is, how does one enter a contest? That Trailer contest that (entry) ends on the 15th looks like it's just up my ally beings I'm nearly finished with mine.

As for your caring what others think comment... I'd say it's good to consider others who haven't had similar oppurtunities and also try not to step on any toes. However I wouldn't be overly concerned with what everyone thinks about you since it's a video contest and not a contest to see who's the "coolest" or most popular. Bauzi had a great post which share's the point I'm attempting to make.

If by "peers," you mean other editors, why do you even care? You really value the opinion of AMV editors that highly? Good luck with the life and all.
