I never hear about people who download and sell (!) illegal copies (ites that let you pay for download obviously illegal copies). Not exactly like UseNet, because UseNet is for everything (and that means that it can also distribute legal stuff), but there are sites that are clearly dedicated to music, films, animes, mangas etc. :|
Would anyone have started this topic on the org if the guy punished was selling hard copies of the songs? Or would it be a 'yeah I can understand that' and move on without comment type of deal.

For example: this barely got mentioned on forums and blogs. It was pretty clearly for profit piracy on a large scale using a very questionable legal justification. Not many people got bent out of shape when it was targeted because it was a fairly clear cut case. It's also a kinda interesting study in how copyright issues between nations are dealt with.

The website with higher PR in my country is all about piracy. It's all about where you're hosting the website, and maybe (but not surely) the terms you're attached to and the way you make use of these.

It's not like the companies are going to actually receive that money. Even if they worked their whole lives they wouldn't be able to pay that much off. It's just about seeing them suffer and scaring others out of doing the same.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson
