Where to submit a video
Fast question
Is it better to submit a video in a contest you have better odds of winning or one wher eyou have better odds of your video being shown?
Simply put I'm finishing up an AMV for AWA but I'm torn if Iw ant to send it to Masters or Expo. If it goes to Expo it has better odds of winning something, if it goes to Masters it has a better chance of being shown at the award ceremony due ot the way Masters are played. Masters deadline is five days away so any speedy advice would be greatly appreciated.

Really depends what your mindset is. Do you want to win or just show your video. You can have both in Masters and you can have both in Expo... just depends how badly you want it.
We're all playing ego boosting here and winning generally does the trick. Just maybe believe you have the moxa to win Masters, otherwise if you can't make yourself believe that, go Expo. Either way, they're both gonna be shown (sort of

Um, if it wins something at Expo, it gets shown during the awards contest usually. I'm not sure I follow your logic.

Actually there is a conundrum in that you are right; but its odds of winning masters IMO are nearly zero, I'm just not that confident in winning Masters to be honest. But see, even if it doesn't win in Masters then it still gets shown during the award ceremony. If I'm wrong about expo and it is outperformed, well then it won't be shown there.

Are they guaranteeing all Masters videos will be shown? See with the rule changes this year, there may be an downpour of videos this year and they may end up not being to show everything either anyway (just guessing here)

I wonder why you think your video has a better chance in expo then masters? the number of vidoes in expo is going to be huge compared to masters. statistically speaking, you have a better chance in masters. If you're looking at it in the sense that it's not good enough for masters, what would make it good enough to win expo?

Probably because for quite some time to enter masters you had to be an award winner. Since incept of Pro hasn't AWA really been known or rather perceived as where the award winning editors compete in Pro/ Masters with their uberworks.Pwolf wrote:I wonder why you think your video has a better chance in expo then masters? the number of vidoes in expo is going to be huge compared to masters. statistically speaking, you have a better chance in masters. Re: Where to submit a video
Don't get me wrong this has nothing to do with ego and expo; quite the opposite really, it's more my lack of confidence in entering masters. Masters to me based on pervious winners requires a style that I just don't like editing in and/or am just not good in. If I had to put it numerically it would be that I feel my chances in masters for winning are probably 0.25% out of an obvious 100% chance of victory. That's about my confidence level there - so despite the amount of competition in expo, it shouldn't be hard to see that ANY level of confidence is higher than that.

Submit to Masters. If you feel it doesn't fit the style you expect from Masters, then it might just give the contest the type of variety it needs.

It could be your great chance because you actually used something different that stings out of the usual stuff we all know. To be honest I don't think that your chances would be higher in Expo. Imagine that you will go against former Nostromo vids in Expo for example. The Wired Knight wrote:Don't get me wrong this has nothing to do with ego and expo; quite the opposite really, it's more my lack of confidence in entering masters. If your personally around at the convention: Go for Masters. It's great to sit in the audience and see the reactions to your video.
