Sad and Depressed/ Happy and Hopeful

I need some anime's where the character(preferably the main character) is either sad and depressed or hopeful and uplifting(any scene where someone makes another person fell better), or both would be even better. If you could tell me the episode number too that would be great.

The first 10 episodes of Clannad revolves around a girl named Fuko that has some serious issues that she is going through. The two main characters kelp her get through them "for the most part anyway", but her arc still has a very sad and yet uplifting ending. I'm trying not to spoil anything in the first 10 episodes because Clannad is a truly great series, but I think that after you watch it, you should have some good scenes that you can use.

If you're only looking for a scene, check out Rurouni Kenshin's - Reflection.

It's a 2 part OVA that sums up everything after the original series has ended. The scene you will be looking for is:

Through out the OVA Sanosuke is trying to cheer up Kenshin. Kenshin is pretty much destroyed from fighting all his life and is super ultra mega depressed. I try not to give everything away even in the spoiler section, so kinda vague

If you haven't seen the series, it's definitely a classic that is worth a watch. Reflection (AKA - Seisouhen) is meant to be watched after the series is over. It is close to the only anime that I have ever lost control of all emotion and bawled for.

Try Fruits Basket. Almost every episode has something like that!
