Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Take Me On

Post by Tommyki » Sat Jul 11, 2009 4:55 am

Video:
===================

This is my first time making an AMV. I was mainly trying to match the beats so I didn't pay too much attention to what clip went where. Even so, I hope you can have a fun experience watching it. Enjoy!

I'm also new to this forum, so hello. ^_^

80sGET.

...uh, why is this in Flash Video?

Okay, this was just awful. Aside from the improper aspect ratio and the terrible visual quality, there was absolutely no sync whatsoever. Not lyrical, not aural, nothing. This is the epitome of the random scenes + music = music video school of "editing." I am, obviously, a huge fan of this song, and I haven't yet gotten tired of Advent Children as a source, but I expect at the very least a scene progression that makes sense. This just lacked connection of any sort. As I watched the video, I was mentally moving scenes around, and I honestly believe that had the video centered more on Cloud, you could have pulled this off. It seemed like, except for the very ending scene, you made no effort whatsoever.

I know this is your first video, and in some way, represents a very proto-video experiment. So, in a way I am sorry to be quite so harsh, but to be honest, this is the Org. This community has rather high standards, and you have failed to even come close to demonstrating you have the potential to meet them. You need to stop, consider what message you're trying to present, watch AMVs that are successful in presenting themes, read over the guides and theory treatises, and go back to the drawing board.

i agree with Kionon over here..
music and scene didn't match at all. i wasn't sure what was going on most of the time

and FLV? why Flash video!
If you are using AME CS4 to encode, you should at least have the F4V format available to you. F4V at least supports h264.

Crud. Uploaded the wrong one. That really sucks. I didn't mean to upload the flash one. It was very tough to figure out how to upload anything, so in all of that, I grabbed the wrong one. I don't even know if it's too late to change or not...
As I said, I didn't put too much thought into clips because I've never done it before. I was just trying to figure out how to use everything and get the cuts correct. I guess I didn't even get them right. In my defense, Windows Movie Maker doesn't help too much for a beginner.
But because it is apparently so bad and because you guys know all the rules, is it possible for me to take it down and upload the correct one? Or is it too late for that?

If I'm not wrong, the ORG policy was the following:
The video is just a cleaner version / different encoding of an existing video. If you have a remastered* version of your video file, do not create a new video entry. Instead, please use the "delete video" link at the bottom of the "edit my videos" page to request to have the video file replaced.

* remaster - to recreate a video using the same video content but with different (usually cleaner) source material; the new video should have the exact same content, scene for scene. Example: Your video was originally created with VHS source. The DVDs for the anime used in your video have now been released. You can then create a remastered version of your video with the DVD source. The final video should look exactly like the original video, except with greater visual quality.
I remember I once wanted to do that.

WMM is no excuse. It's what I used to get into editing and i'm happy I did. I actually think everybody should use WMM at first, so that they can appreciate a more raw editing method, not so effect relient, yakno?

Thanks Pankyy. I'll try that.

And I didn't mean to say WMM is a bad program. But it gave a constant lag on playback, which made it hard for me to know if it looked right.

That's probably because your computer doesn't have enough RAM. If WMM lags bad for you then anything above that'll be hell.

Or it may be the use of a lossy codec inside of WMM.

Actually WMM just has really shitty playback regardless, but I got around it. I exported often and remembered timestamps and whatnot and figured it out that way.
