Hosting? ...Gonna test an Idea.

Post by Freako » Sun Dec 01, 2002 12:16 pm

anyone who does not have hosting and would like to try and distribute their Amvs through peer2peer ... please leave a note.

this will be done through an already active p2p service which i will not mention at this time (i dont want this thread to be moved.)

thank you.

this is just a little alternative hosting solution i am working on for those of us that do not have hosting.
please leave an email at
assailantstudios@hotmail.com
or you can message me at AIM Freako2k

i just want to see how many people may be interested.

thank you.

This idea gets brought up by someone new about every month or so.

Search past threads, you'll find other people who've suggested the same sort of thing.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

yes

yes i realize that ... but seeing how my pc is on almost 24/7 .... i was going to offer people the use of my disk space and constant cable connection to the internet as and alternative to hosting (sure its not perfect) but what the hell ..

an organized way to d/l p2p might be a little more attractive of a concept to some people.

anyways .. if no one wants it , screw it.

Problem is bandwidth. You might have a 24/7 system and online connection and relatively unlimited hard drive space but there is a limit to how much bandwidth you can take up for uploads and downloads on just about every DSL and cable connection. More than enough bandwidth is given for the average household but hosting a popular download station will quickly eat through your bandwidth.

Nothing wrong with trying to make things better but understand that there is usually a good reason things are the way they are with so many people doing this for so long.

what?

Post by Freako » Sun Dec 01, 2002 5:59 pm

im not talking about hosting a station ..im talking about organization within an already existing peer2peer.
Where people can get me their vids through, AIM .. or mail whatever .. and i will make them availible through this p2p.

1.you log onto the p2p
2. you join the appropriate room
3. click on my name (browse files)
4 begin to download the file(s) you are looking for .

if i can get enuff people ... it is an idea that is worth kicking around.

please at least check out what i am talking about.
http://www.slsk.org/ this is where to d/l the software, then enter the room entitled (Anime Music Videos)
and browse Freako.

hey .. it can only help!
later.

Sounds more like IRC or something of the sort...

Tried that before, not very good if people don't want to share it, and usually they don't :). Oh yeah, speaking of cable, sure it's downloading is fast but it's uploading is slower than ADSL, Your downloading speed is a person's uploading speed and your uploading speed is someone's downloading speed. Cable connections aren't exactly the best connections to use, maybe DSL, ADSL, SDSL and the T connection family. Although you can hope that your vid becomes popular until people want to share it on KaZaa, but until then dude, you've got to get proper webhosting.

It's probably Direct Connect, or a variant of that. You logon to a server with one channel on it, go into the chan, then it's a chat room and a file sharing channel, something like DC and IRC put together.

Technically cable can up to about 10Mbit/upload. It's just that the ISPs limit your connection. Be it cable or DSL  So most everyone is stuck with 128Kbit/256Kbit upload pipes connections.
