Tips to Improve my AMVs
I work really hard and try to do a good job but all I got to show for it, star rating wise, is a 2.5 out of 5, and I figured out how to use good quality clips, so I thought that would help, but it apparently doesn't. I've tried to sync my clips as best as I can, and I don't have Sony Vegas so I can't do all those fancy effects and whatnot, so what could I possibly do to get a better rating...ugh, and I thought I'd improved immensely over my last AMV.
I meant to put this in General AMVs, mod, please move this.

Or alternatively, watch bad amvs, and figure out why they are bad.Zarxrax wrote:Watch good amvs, and figure out why they are good.
Focus on what you don't like about them, or what doesn't work that well and make sure you avoid the common pitfalls that come when editing an AMV, such as lack of flow/pace, coherency and the likes. Always remember this when you're editing; what is it that you want the viewer to think/feel?

Re: Tips to Improve my AMVs
I guess your main problem is that you care too much about something as simple or not too accurate like the star ratings are. The best way to improve is to keep trying until you reach what you think is the best point you could go to, and if even that isn't enough, watch your favourite videos (should be good, right?) and try to do similar things. Don't do just the same, but try to use what you want to apply. That will kind of help your way on making what you believe is a better video.guardiansoulblade wrote:I work really hard and try to do a good job but all I got to show for it, star rating wise, is a 2.5 out of 5, and I figured out how to use good quality clips, so I thought that would help, but it apparently doesn't. Re: Tips to Improve my AMVs
I wouldnt judge whether or not my amv is good or bad based on the org's star rating system, or the op score, or even the feedback i get here. It basically boils down to whether you edit for your own amusement or to impress dickheads strangers on the internet.
Anyways.. yeah basically what Pankyy said.

No but my point is.Someday Soon wrote:Yet haven't released anything yet have you?
I've seen alot of AMVs, good and bad. I know what a good AMV is like and what a bad AMV is like.
So when I watch my own video as I'm making it (which I am) I can decide if it's good or not. Also I get people like mirk to beta test it and tell me what I'm doing wrong. My first release will be a collab with Nya-chan Production.

Re: Tips to Improve my AMVs
This is probably the core of it. Anybody can just make any randomb video they like. Ideas are a dime a dozen (not taking into account originality) so if it's purely just for making videos that you yourself enjoy then none of this star rating should matter.Pas wrote:Always remember this when you're editing; what is it that you want the viewer to think/feel?
But obviously to you it does matter so that's when you must consider what someone else likes. Keep a look out for the videos in the announcement forums with lots of possitive replies (from after the first page onwards; the first page is usually reserved for circle jerking). That shows you what people like. Bonus if it were in the same genre of video you were working on. Delve deeper than just the effects, cuts and other outwardly cosmetic things. Look into how the video made someone's heart skip a beat, or how it made them grin from ear to ear, or made their brain explode from stimuli overload. Be more philosophical about it and put yourself in someone else's shoes
