Glowing Characters with grey background (After Effects)

Post by AriqLordOfSpirits » Mon Jun 29, 2009 11:24 am

I've just watched this video...and I saw a very cool effect. The characters were glowing....here are two screenshots with one second difference. Anyone can tell me how to do/make this kind of effects

Looks like the trapcode shine was applied to the character. So yeah... try to do this:
1) Duplicate the layer;
2) Mask the character with the pen tool (even a rough mask should be fine);
3) Apply the trapcode shine to this layer. Those setting look like the colorize has been set to "Mars", the ray length has been reduced to perhaps 2 or so, and the source point has been moved on the top of the screen, over the character.
As for the background, it just seems like a Fractal Noise overlayed onto the image. Just overlaying it would affect the character too, though, so perhaps you might want to:
1) Duplicate the original layer;
2) Mask out what you don't want to have the noise;
3) Creating a new solid layer and applying the fractal noise effect to it;
4) Placing this layer between the mask and the original image and setting it's blending mode to overlay.
Those should do it.

If you want to do this, do you have to do it frame by frame? Or does it apply to the whole clip?

You'll have to change the mask for every frame, but that aside, it should be fine.
