The anime. I rarely watch amvs using anime I don't know/like unless they're edited by my friends. Even if the music is crummy, when I watch the amv enough times the song, for the most part, grows on me.

oh and the Pas Factor.

I'm gonna have to say reviewability. I don't give a damn about anime, and the the Org usually introduces me to new music. Simple AMVs can be just as entertaining as complex ones. But if it isn't memorable, whether it be by anime, song, concept, or execution, then most likely I ain't gonna watch it again. That is, whenever I do get around rewatching AMVs, which is like once in a blue moon or so.

I think concept and clip choice are the most important - making sure the AMV is greater than the sum of its parts.

Music and timing.

It should be entertaining. Fun to watch or, if not fun, you should feel something, (other than nausea), while watching.

And at least consider editing the song!

Good songs, by their nature, are repetitious. Good AMVs are not.

Concept (Dont give random clips)

Synchronizing (At least for those random clips to go with music)

Choice of music and anime is absolutly subjectiv oppinion and every time there will be someone who will not like because of either of these factors.

Personal enjoyment.

Whether I think I do a good job or not, it matters little in the long run how people felt about it at release (although it can seem to matter a great deal at the time of release). It only matters how I feel as I look back on the video. I'd rather have a video I think is an under appreciated example of my best work, than a video that is celebrated but I personally feel I made no effort on.

There are many things that go into making an amv. I don't think it'd be an easy thing to name one thing the most important. What I look for in a good video is how people make their cuts, does the song work with the footage, if there is a concept, how well was it executed? If there is a story, is it able to be followed without reading a 10 paragraph long description?

It all boils down to "What do you look for in a video that makes you enjoy it", and we've had a handful of threads like that by now. I think it's getting a little redundant.
