I thought there was a connection related to release of the neurotransmitter dopamine? And that levels of said neurotransmitter could provide some insight into why some people are more prone to addictions than others.

But then, this was stuff I read once in a magazine something like 10 years ago.
Well the dopamine chemicals are on the 'Reward Pathway' of your brain, that pathway obviously allows you to feel happy, proud, etc. Most drugs, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc. mess with the dopamine exits of a cell in your brain, and cause you to feel that 'high', you feel invincible and on top of the world; it also temporarily gets rid of pain and struggles in your world because there is so much dopamine in the brain.

But the addiction happens because your body craves the same dopamine in the brain that you had on that first 'high.' I suppose you could become addicted to gambling (etc.) because it can make it happy, but I'm not too sure if, in reality, the amount of dopamine staying in your brain is really that high for you to become addicted. Plus, there aren't really chemicals blocking dopamine receptors. I'm not quite sure. :?

You know... I've never heard about this dopamine stuff before. But I completely understood ever single word of what you just said.

I simply cannot watch anime on my computer anymore, about two years ago that wasn't the case but over time I realized I would have a few anime series/movies simply sitting there for months neglected and never be seen by my eyes. I would always have something else to do when on the computer thus watching anime became less of a priority on it. Thus I started buying DVDs more than I used that way I won't have any sort of distraction while I'm watching. Now I simply buy DVDs to watch anime and edit with, if I felt like it.

If an anime catches my eye enough for me to make an AMV of it, I will buy a DVD of it. Even if I'm using the subs to make the AMV, I will buy the DVD of it. (Waiting for Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai to come to america :-) Already bought all of season 1)

It influences my buying habits by showing me cool looking shows.

I don't buy anime because I feel bad about something. I buy it because I like tangible things, as well as watching anime. AMV making is generally tertiary.

Wow.....Haha, I need to spend more time in this section of the forum.

Well, for me it starts with listening to music either on the radio or on a CD, and while listening, whether I be driving, or walking to somewhere (Walking with headphones) I tend to let my mind wander and tend to go about thinking what anime would go well with it how good transitions should or what kind there should be and should I cut the song here or here? It all starts with the song for me.

Then it gets to the stage where, if I have a really good idea, but don't have the anime needed, it's off to Suncoast. Sometimes when I guy my anime, I don't really look for a particular anime. I go by either what looks interesting or what the art on the cover and the screenshots on the back of the box look like. I'm a big impulse buyer as a result.

That is how I came across the amazingly Epic Osamu Tazuka's Phoenix anime box-set, which is just amazing to watch. It was an impulse buy but I found it to be chock full of editing material because of the visual style.

Anyway, timez to shut up, before I start rambling. And yes, I guess I do buy out of a sense of obligation to my hobby.

Woud I buy a series strictly for AMV purposes....NO.

Two reasons:

1. You should have watched the series (I hope - grazed through it at least) to discover scenes for your AMV, and if I don't like the series, no way in hell am I going to sit through it, yet alone spend my money on it. So... all my AMVs have been of series I've seen, and enjoy.

2. AMVs are an offshoot of my main hobby. My hobby comes first. :) ANIME ADDICTION!

But I do buy series that I like...but I have had series dropped on me, and have learned...buy the BOX sets! Box sets are cheaper in the long run, if you have patience! Ya, so I'm almost as bad as those who never buy...I almost never figure into intial sales numbers anymore...which may predict whether or not a series gets dropped. However some studios seem to have figured out the box set trend...they just need to "fix" their box set trend. lol. D. Grayman is to be released in 4 box sets, when it can easily be two. :) Just my two cents. I will typically buy individual DVDs for short series...you know the 4 DVDer's, but there are not that many of those.

And I do watch fansubs...however, I buy anime that I like :) And I prefer english dubs to fansubs any day! If I don't like the anime...I don't even watch the fansub. Plain and simple. Right now, I'm hoping Funimation will pick up the licensing for 07-Ghost....I was hooked by opening credits!

I collect DVDs of series I like and also for footage. I can get obsessive when collecting though.
